Whether its the top of the range BL5s at £10,000 or a pair of BL4000s at £1,200 a pair (or whetever the price) its the fact that you will rarely see those speakers in a person's home.
I think the kind of people that buy into B&O are those that are individual (mostly) and those that recognise and appreciate quality in a product. I love the manufacturing detail that goes into producing every B&O product. The thought process involved from start to finish is to be commended.
It is definitly about being different. I like it when people come into my home and comment on products they have not seen before. They like all the B&O products but the BS9000 has so far been the clear favourite with the BeoCom 2 and the BeoSound 3 a close second. Funnily enough, not many comments about the BV7-40 but then I feel the seem way so I can fully understand that! I think you appreciate what I mean by that Dave. Great TV which is why I bought it but definitly does not have the design edge to it that the famous BV5 that everyone knows I loved, had. I will never understand to this day why B&O did not keep improving the BV5. Why change it to the shape of the BV9? I guess only they have that answer.

I think you can have confidence that they won't lose their individuality in the way of becoming more popular and widespread, their prices are only going up up up! Bad news for me. :( Everytime i see a BS9000 in the shop i look at it thinking wow it's so stately. It is such a beautiful piece.

That's the thing with the BV5/9, because there is no TV at all that looks like it, the first thing one would natrually say is, whats that..... it's beautiful! The Beosound 4 has that quirk, no one knows what it is, but it looks beautiful...

I do like to think what you said there, basically most people who buy B&o are going against the tide, I certainly do i'm only 21, live alone, only work in a little shop - everyone thinks i'm crazy You are spot on re: it's not the fact that one can afford to buy the B&o that makes them individual (anyone can sign a cheque or sign for a credit card)

The BC2 has a great wow factor with the opening wings effect but I have seen similar products from Chinese manufacturers so it wasn't unique enough to captivate me as much as some other products.
Before I settled with my current setup I was originally going to buy the BV5 with the BC2 and BL9s at the front with BL3s at the back. The reason all that changed was because the dimensions of my flat didn't allow for that kind of setup. If I ever get round to posting pictures some day you'll see why when you see the living room. The BV7-40 with the 7-2 speaker was the setup that complimented the space better and as an enthusiast of interior design I will always go with the look rather than the functionaility as such, so in this case, I compromised and missed out on having surround sound.
I must admit that as much as I love the BS9000 and I only bought it a couple of years ago I do often find myself wondering whether I should change it for the BS5 instead. Its so difficult to make a decision as I like both for different reasons. The BS5 is quite messy in terms of cabling requirments but assuming those could all be hidden away nicely then the actual look is done in good taste. I do like the BS5.
My priority at the moment is my bathroom which I am currently redesigning with B&O in mind of course.
I am the type of person that would buy a product because I like it (let's say the BeoLab 4000s for example) and then try to fit the home around those, rather that the other way round! In terms of imagination, don't you just think that the BeoLink 7000 is an absolute winner? I adore that product so much! Not worth buying one because I haven't really got anything to use it with but what a toy that was, and a very powerful and well thought out one at that. There's just too many products I could mention that I love. The AV9000 TV is definitly another one and I almost bid on the one that finished on Ebay yesterday! The location was only up the road from where I am staying at the moment with my Mum, and it was pick up only. Could have been there in 15 minutes. I was so tempted, but I really have to consider where I could have put it ... which was nowhere!

So, in a nut shell, regarding your desire in B&o products, you apreciate the indivuality the most! I am the same, the individuality really does it for me, and the fact that it looks GORGEOUS makes it a 100% satisfaction for me.

My Beocenter 1 (on it's tall stand) has become a love affair, so has my BL4000's with it's BS4 (all on floorstands), all for the reasons aformentioned

The AV9000 is an absolute beauty and if i ever saw one i'd chase it, just like i did with my BC1...

Funny thing is that I've never bought in to the BS 9000. It just doesn't do it for me. No idea why. I don't dislike it, but wouldn't choose to purchase it either. I love the BC2 though. Now, in my opinion, this really is iconic - the BC2 could live on, as is, with a backend upgrade, for ages.

Well if it looks okay in the room, and the viewing distance is ok then is it not a done deal? I think the question to ask is whether the viewing distance will be okay - you have to be brutally honest with yourself on this one, measure it exactly, visit the dealer and check it out and see if you can accept the result. To be honest most of the stuff available to view at the moment is SD. HD content is just not an issue on this set.

Allready did that, and believe the psychical dimensions of BV9 will be ok. Funny enough, most of the dealers in my city have the BV9 set up at a viewing distance of maximum 4 meters. My own dealer maybe because of missing space, but others have space and still do so.

I agree with your taste Simon. However i adore the BV9 and i think it looks great in any room, but yes the BV5 looks a thousand times nicer and less intrusive, but that product is GONE hehe and in the current range the BV9 and BV4 really are the stars in my view, the BV7 has always been an average design to me that looks like a typical tv on a pole.

Mr anders_son's room would look really alot nicer with BL9's...

You can't compare the lifespan of a music system to a TV, sorry but ya just can't!! The technology develops at a totally different speed! In the time the bs9000 has been around and most other CD players in the range, the TV's have all been and gone

The BV9 is a great TV and is of course B&O's flagship television but I rarely call products masterpieces unless in my opinion they are, and for me, the BV9 is certainly not a masterpiece. The BV5 was the closest to being a masterpiece. B&O products that I would call masterpieces include: BeoSound 9000, BeoLab 5, BeoLab 9, AV 9000, BS2300/2500/3000, BeoLink 7000 to name but a few. Of course my definition of what constitutes a masterpiece is very different from someone else, and that's as it should be. I am a critic and a hard one at that. I look for perfection as much as I can. The products I have mentioned, in my opinion, have pushed the boundaries in terms of design, innovation, imagination, technical specifications, build quality and sustainability. Some B&O products are in museums for these very reasons. Much as I like the BV9, and I do, I couldn't ever say it is a masterpiece as I think there is a lot more B&O could do to create a masterpiece tv.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Ask yourself this question . o O ( Will the BV9 achieve the same as the BeoSound 9000 has in terms of longevity? ) If not, why not? I have a BV7-40 mk 3, and both HD and SD look excellent from all sources. However with an SD source if you sit too close you will see pixellation, although I do feel the BV7-40 handles it better than any other set I have seen so far. For SD I would not want to sit closer than 3m, 4m would be better. These screens are large so you can sit further away. Beware the BV9 is a big TV, it tends to look good in dealer's premises because they tend on the whole to be substantially more spacious than a domestic environment. To be a bit "blue peter" why not mock up the set in card if you are in any doubt about it's size - definitely better than spending over 10k and then finding out that it is just too big for your room I suspect that a BV9 and BL5s would dominate your room, but if it could work and not look out of place then it would be sublime.

I understand and agree 100%..however, when you say that Bl5´s and 9´s are overkill in a medium sized room, you make it sound like these speakers are only superior at high volumes. This is as you probably know yourself not the case. Yes, my speakers sometimes shakes the room during an action movie, but then i have the opportunity to lower the volume. Furthermore, the lab 5´s ability to calibrate themselves to every roomsize IMO justifies the Lab 5´s instead of lab 9´s at all times (if your room size psychically allows it that is)

If i was to my collect media only from a visual aspect, i would NOT go for the huge Bl5´s, however, sound is 85% for me and with lab 5´s i really think the last 15% for looks are quite good. Yes the lab 8000´s looks absolutely stunning and they will in my opinion always be the prettiest B&O speakers ever made, BUT where they have the look, they miss the relative performance to lab 5´s. I will sell my "small" 90 sqf apartment before parting with my speakers :-). SO the speakers absolutely has to stay. I have to decide between the new 7-40 and a BV9. 7-40 has inbuild blueray, 100 hz, DVB-C module etc. BV9 is bigger, IMO more beautiful and plasma with (well i dont know yet but still assume) better colors, blacklevel etc... For me, this is a really tough choice. That said, had my livingroom been 40 sqf, i would definitely go for BV9.. I mean, can i live with the fact that BV9 might not be the BEST choice for MY livingroom at THIS moment, instead of me compromising and buying a BV 7..??
