My bet would be the cartridge faulty. In my opinion, re-tipping is not viable option as you are still going to be using the old suspension and coils etc..

My advice is to "bite the bullet" and order a new SMMC4 from Sound-smith. You will be amazed at what a new cartridge does for the deck and your records.

It could be the cartridge but before embarking on this route, it would be worth testing the Beogram with another cartridge. Do you know anyone around you with a Beogram with any of the suitable cartridges - or try your MMC2 on their deck.

The sound of my newly added Beogram 7000 with a MMC2 is really bad. Interuptions occur, cracking noises etc.

Could it be just the cartridge? s. attachment.

If so, would it be better to retip the original one (appr. 140 USD/95 GBP for starter version - Diamond Elliptical Stylus) or buy a SMMC4 from soundsmith (costs are about the same). Third option woud be to retip the original one with a more advanced finish: Nude Line Diamant. Check www.schallplattennadeln.de for details.

If it is not the cartrigde, is there anybody out here who could rework the Beogram 7000? Please PM me for costs involved.
