It sounds as though the voice coil is rubbing and this will fail if not done properly. Recone Lab can do this and I dare say Martin (Dillen) would like a chance to see a 3800 as well!

beovox 3800 12-inch woofer problem

Hey guys,

I hooked up my 3800's after they've been unused for quite a few years. On one though the subwoofer sounds distorted. When I press the cone I can hear the coil rubbing, and if I press upward the rubbing stops. So I'm pretty sure the rubber surround has just sagged with age causing the coil to rub. Has anyone tried to fix something like this before? And how hard is it to replace a non-foam surround? (I've only done foam ones before).

Thanks guys,

Austin
