So this morning I received a lovely pair of black CX50's.

50 euros + shipping. They have started to foam rot, but it's not too bad, so going to check them out as they are, if not good enough, I'm going to get new drivers.

They do look awesome for 50 euros

I might have found a pair in need of some repair, and offered the man 50 euros for them, let's see, I think that is fair. 178 euros that the other ones costs feels a bit high to be honest...

50 Euros is more than fair, and 178 Euros for the others is too much. A lot does depend on cosmetic condition though but even rough ones can be easily fettled to look much better - keep us posted.

Mine are really fine - just given them a good prod - have had plenty of speakers with foam rot so do know what it is like. Not sticky and very flexible. No idea why!

I don't know why either Peter, almost every set of CX speakers I've come across have had foam rot. Maybe some sort of witchcraft going on in the North east?

Re:- the OP. I personally wouldn't pay more than £100 for a mint pair or £40 for a pair in need of new/refoamed drivers.

Two weeks back I bought my parents a pair of CX50's in absolute mint condition. No foam rot and the speakers looked as if they just left the factory. Paid € 100 for them including postage and package. Not bad value, I reckon.

I was quite lucky to find an almost mint cosmetically condition pair of CX50s but speakers were quite dead!!!

Chirs (medogsfat) really helped on this matter and I still enjoy them in my bedroom along with the MX4002. Great combination.

An average price is between 80-120 Euros (on Ebay) but these most likely need some repair.

So I'm looking at least 50 euros in repairs IF they need it.

Well, I have to check the grandfathers C40's at some point being made in the late 70-ties early 80-ties, they have to be destroyed right?
