I can honestly say that the BV5 is the only non HD plasma television i have ever known that people watch and just assume it's HD. They are the bargains of the century at the moment, and if i didn't have a BV9 i would happily still be watching my BV5..

Agree - we have a non-HD BV5, and we love it! I think the PQ is superior to many HD-sets. The picture processing engine does a great job when rendering faces/skin tones and nature. We also love the design of the BV5 - fits perfectly with the BS9k and the BL5. I think that the BV9 also looks great, but my personal opinion is that the sharp frame and the square look of the BV5 is a better design than the BV9.

I'm now considering substituting our 18 year old (! yet an argument of buying BO TV - who have a 18 year old TV that is still working perfectly?) MX6000 which we currently have in our winter garden (glass house) with a LCD - maybe the new blueray BV7? Mainly because of having a larger screen with better daylight PQ.

Today I have decided to try to get my 9 year old Avant repaired (turns off with a loud speaker plop every once in a while). The idea is to win some time until the new 100Hz BV7 comes out (please B&O, also make the BV7 32 a monster tv; not only the 40 inch).

Yesterday I got a good offer on a BV7 40, but after some consideration decided not to go for it (yet?). One of the main raisons is that I like the picture of the BV9 much more.

Time will tell if this is the good decision......

Yes, the Pioneer is awful to look at esthetically. That's why I would never buy one. Well you should never say never.

the kuro does have a superb piccie , but it's really rather dull to look at , plus the pioneer gold logo is a tad garish

the bv9 is very nice but a bit over bearing in a room , the bv7 especially with the vertical speaker seems much more understated , especially in all black

can't wait til the bv7/40 mkIV w/ 100hz and blu ray comes out , now that will be a monster tv !!!

That's the other thing I like about the BeoVision 9 - it tends to polarize opinions. Some people hate it, others absolutely love it. IMO, any good design (from a visual point of view) should do that, otherwise it'd be boring.

I'm surprised that the BeoVision 9 is such a favorite over the BeoVision 7. Something about the 7's form struck me the way the Avant first did. I remain nonplussed by the 9. Maybe it because I, like many others, consider the BeoVision 5 to be such a pure expression that the BeoVision 9, with its less elegant proportions, seems a bit of a step back in form factor no matter how big a leap forward in electronics.

I do have to say that, not being a huge PQ nut, my next TV will probably be a BeoVision 5.

Alex, there you said it. It's the best picture you have seen.

Picture quality as well as sound quality, clothing, women, men, cars, houses, food, etc... is all up to a matter of opinion. Personal opinion.

You may think the BV9 has the best picture out there, for me it hasn't. It's the Kuro for me. But luckily I'm completely "uninterested" in picture quality and drowning in interest for music and sound quality. This makes things cheaper The next TV set I'll get is an old BV5. It's the TV of my dreams.

You see, after all I follow my heart and get the more-expensive-than-50"KURO-non-HD-BV5-used cause the design is what I'm after... Since I'm completely uninterested in PQ.

Sorry to say but I need to disagree with you.

IMO BV9 is the only TV from B&O current tv range that have this WOW factor !

And for me this is enough beside technical characteristics, materials and quality to justify value for money! I would be ready to pay 30% mor for that WOW! If I can afford BV9 I will not think a second !

What makes you say that? I was in the market for a new TV a while back which gave me a chance to really look at the competitors products and nothing came anywhere near a BeoVision 9, both in terms of standard definition and high definition performance.
Come on Alex. I know you have a connection with B&O, but aren't you a sixth-former? This kind of comparison is like me saying that I kind of fancy upgrading from my Fiat Panda to something a bit quicker (you know, like a 4 speed MKII Ford Fiesta 1.1 Popular Plus or something) so I went down the nearest dealer and took a GT40 out for a spin. You're not really comparing like with like, unless you've got a great deal going on with your EMA that the rest of us don't know about!

When I say 'I' I mean 'we' . It was my father's money I was spending.

Either way, I was the one who made the decision. I would have gone with a second hand BeoVision 3 if dad wasn't so skeptical of pre-owned TVs. The good thing which came out of it was the chance to see the competitor's products, and while I was expecting a difference in performance between the B&O offerings and the brand X offerings, I hadn't expected it to be so big! The BeoVision 9 is just streets ahead of any other set I've seen out there, in terms of colour reproduction (using the Luxe HD channel as a test), motion tracking, contrast levels and standard definition reproduction (with a conventional DVD).

Although after all that I've said, I'm sure someone will come along and argue that it isn't the best picture I've seen etc...

Well it's the staggering presence that the BV9 commands that i find exciting, the curved aluminium frame just looks so natural next to other B&o products... wish i could afford one - but i can't

I agree with Lee, BV9 over a Ferrari any day

Depends on the point you want to make Lee. Whereas a lot of people would think it's amazing to have and own a Ferrari, strangely the same people think that a B&O TV is totally overkill.

Personally, I'd rather have the BV9 than a Ferrari.

Talking of small details - the curved frame isn't plastic, it's aluminium!

And yes, myself i prefer Porsche to Ferrari - but the Italian marque has more impact when making a point..

A valid point Lee but as you already know ... I am the type that favours the Porsche over the Ferrari. A Ferrari looks great on the outside but the inside doesn't match the outside. I love Porsche beause every part of it is refined, unlike the Ferrari. Could we say the same about a BV9? The Porsche Carera (only referring to this model) is built on 40+ years of engineering and every part of it is refined, from chasis to engine to door handle to cigarette lighter! I drove a Carera 4 for 6 months (courtesy of a family member who had a 1 year drink driving ban!) and fell in love with it. It was like the B&O feeling I get from many of their products, but for me, not the BV9 I am sorry to say. Not just the BV9 though, neither the BV7 or any other TV in the current range excites me. I was always a BV5 fan and still am, everybody who knows me on the forum knows that. To be fair to the BV9 its close to the BV5 in many ways so its not a million miles away from what I want, but the acoustic lens positioned where it is, the plastic curved frame and the unequal size between screen and speaker are the key issues for me and its those issues that put me off it. I would trade in my BV7 for the BV9 and pay the difference if I felt it was worth it but I don't. The BV7 is a set I have bought for the interim period (however long that turns out to be) until B&O release a new TV that has the wow factor that the BV5 had. There's not a lot in it as I said, and that I think its interesting. Small details although small to some, can be quite big for others, and I am the 'others' in this context.

I'm not knocking the price of the BV9 Lee (or Alex for working for B&O part-time) - just stating that it's pretty obvious that the BV9 is going to outperform most of the competition, particularly when the competition is defined by what you can afford given your age/budget, hence the Fiesta/GT40 comparison. I imagine Alex can well lust after a BV9 at work, but when you're then looking at ASDA for a small LCD to go in your bedroom, I'm afraid that's always going to be a bit of a letdown! We've all been there, after all.

For what it's worth though, at £15k I would hope that the BV9 is the best thing in the marketplace at that price point.

From spouting occasional drivel a few years ago, i think Alex has now matured into a very knowledgable and respected member here. Yes, he works at a Bang & Olufsen Dealership, but i would say that actually makes him more credible when giving opinions personally. People may disagree with me, but that's my own opinion!

What we are talking about here is wether a BV9 is good value for money. If you want the very best in design, image quality and functionality - then the BV9 in my opinion is unmatched by any manufacturer - so the price is justified. If you want to do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, you can do it in a Nissan Skyline GTR at about £60k, or in a Ferrari F430 Scuderia at £170k - which one looks the most stylish and has the most prestige and kudos? Ferrari would go bankrupt if it sold on performance figures alone - it's the styling, image and performance it has to rely on global sales.
