We haven't really seen or grasped all fatures of the BS5 yet.

Nobody knows for example if it will do gapless playing or how it is "fed" from the PC, especially when Beoplayer is not used which shuld be the case for many (Itunes Ipod User).

I think we have to ask the question again in March or May or whenever they are done with it.

For those of you that partake, Merry X-mas.

Keep the BS 9000 enjoy it; not completely sold on Beoport. I will continue the 'search' for a system that will allow me rip, uncompressed, cds & easily search them. BS 5 at least for now, it does not solve any current integration issues satisfactory enough.

It is an interesting first step and I eagerly await a more thorough solution from B&O that combines the ability to rip my own cds directly. I expect, some time down the line, video integration. After-all, they still call themselves a video & music company.

In the meantime, I will save my $$ for the 'BigBoyz' BL 5.

I bought a new BS9000 (Mark III) last November knowing about the release of the BS5 around this time (albeit little information but enough to base my decision on) and I continued with my purchase. It's completely a personal thing but for me the 'B&O experience' encompasses many things, and one of those is the pleasure of searching for a CD from my collection, opening the BS9000 glass door, inserting the CD, closing the glass door, using the remote to select a CD and watching the CD clamper move to my chosen disc along with the backlights and digital text showing and start playing. My decision was based mostly on this aspect, I'd say about 70%-80%.

While I do take an interest in advancing technology generally, it is the look and the design of a product that captures me the most. I have seen the BS5 and played with it a little. I like it and I think it is a good B&O product, especially its design. However, it doesn't capture me enough to choose over a BS9000. I think its because I felt bored after just 20 minutes or so of using it. Can't explain why because I do find it an interesting concept but it just doesn't make enough of a statement for me personally.

While I acknowledge we are definitly entering (or already well in - depending on your viewpoint) a digital age, and we are; its important that B&O have recognised that and come up with a suitable product. However, I also feel that along with this advancement there is a loss of the physical world, i.e. moving parts, intricate and visible mechanics/electronics, the 'oral phase' if you like, before the build up to the big bang!

I will be the type of customer who will buy the BS5 but only several years down the line, perhaps 4-5 years time, and I will have it as a second bedroom/link system. Its a great first product from B&O for the digital world but it just doesn't have enough wow factor for me to think its going to be around for too long. It will be replaced fairly quickly I feel but in fairness to B&O I think all other brands in the digital world will ultimately suffer the same fate. It is a natural occurence of digital technology. What interests me however, and interests me greatly, is that if anyone can create a product (given time) to make a BS9000 type product in the digital world - one with staying power - it would not surpirse me at all if B&O were once again the pioneers. I am behind them all the way, but on this occasion the BS5 just isn't the new BS9000 for me.

if you really want a bs5 -just wait a year or two -and get one for free (ala serenata) when you buy your new bs9000 Mk. IV in rosewood.

3. keep BS9000 and enjoy it's beauty & heritage and buy a BS5 and enjoy the future flexibility that downloading music offers.

Option number 2 was my second option. The BS5 makes no sense to me, and the BS 9000 makes all the sense in the world.

2. Get a Beoport making sure I had a Mac so that I could control the whole thing using an iPod Touch.

Until they fit a CD drive which would allow me to rip and sensibly catalogue my own collection, I would not entertain a BS5, pretty or not!

If you would own a BeoSound 9000 MKIII what would you do with it?

1. sell and buy BS5 instead

2. keep and buy BeoPort to stream mp3 and Net.Radio

3. keep BS9000 and buy aditional BS5 for streaming
