The battery symbol has come on whilst the LCD is still clearly legible. The symbol appears part of way through a multtiple operation (ie something form list), then the entire screen goes balnk. If the command is simply a single source eg CD, then there appears to be enough power to do that.

You must have a special Beo4!

That's right Andy, I don't recall seeing "battery" in my Beo4's either. My first is from -96 or -97. I change the battery when the LCD screen starts to be difficult to read.

Duracel here. Lasts a couple of years in a Beo4.

I also enjoy the energizer lithiums. I use them in my nikon coolpix L5, they really perform.

Otherwise, I wouldn't think twice about what batteries to put in my remotes. I usually buy ten-packs of AAA and AA batteries when my wife drags me along to Ikea. Cheap, not as good as "branded" but hey, If I change batteries every 9 months instead of every 15 months is no big deal to me.

From experience one of the luxury features of the branded batteries is that they are less likely to leak if not used/replaced very often. This can be really useful if you have batteries (as I do in my Beolit collection) that you want to trust not to leak/be able to keep charge over time.

Yes, but the real killer is Energizer Lithium.

Lithium batteries used to be 3V per cell, but these have some kind of a new chemistry which allows lithium batteries to directly replace old 1.5 V alkaline cells. These will last forever in remotes - I haven't been using anything else for a while.

Excellent for emergency flashlights because they won't go flat by themselves, and as spare batteries for digital cameras as well. Digicams take so much peak current that they cease working long before alkaline batteries are technically flat.

Well the reason i have stuck with traditional batteries is because i have only had my beo4 since last saturday lol.

Thanks for all the replies so far - I notice that everyone so far has stuck to "traditional" batteries - no one opting for rechargeable!

I use rechargeable ones in the MCP 6500 as ordinary just do not last and have been using some Beolinks with them too.

I remember a thread on another (now defunct) B&O forum where a survey was published on this subject and the clear winner in a price/hours usage comparison was Morrisons own brand of long life batteries.

I don't know why this partiular thread has stayed in my mind, none of the others have which I suppose says something about why the site bombed.

BTW - I use Uniross rechargable ones.

Duracell seem to last literally for years.
