Scott, with my current setup I faced the same challenge! Wife liked the 7.2, but the two Lab5 said 7.4 or Lab3.

So I did an intensive testing with the three different speaker. Suprisingly the lab3 did not work very well as center (at least with the lab5), it always felt ike something is missing.

The 7.2 and the 7.4 did a better job as center speaker, after a full day switching back and force I went with the 7.4 but the difference is much smaller than most would guess....furthermore, a 5.1 setup is mostly used for movies, so once you are pulled into the story of the movie, this little difference is just for the records

So no worries, go with the lab 7.2!

From the bottom of the DVD, to the stand base is about 23cm, when the DVD is opened this drops to about 21.5cm.

The height of the BL3 is 23cm (top of the acoustic lens bit), and about 20cm if ignoring the acoustic lens.

From the front of the BV7 screen to the edge of the stand base is about 13cm, and the BL3 is 17cm deep.

So it may be a bit tight fit to place the BL3 under the BV7, better to see if a dealer could remove a BL7.2 in the shop and squeeze the BL3 under the TV.

Yes it does. If you place some thing on top of the plate, it will turn as well. I don't if the BL3 is too high, and if it will cover the DVD tray or not.

two quick questions. what you turn it, what exactly moves, does the whole circular shiny metal move ?

how much clearance exactly for something sitting on the stand itself ? i'm looking to put a bl3 on the stand right in front of the tv, will anything bump ?

Here is a photo of my BV7-40 on the motorized tablestand, I decided to go for this because my ceiling comes down quite low. I already had the BL8000s, but I'm thinking of getting the BL9s or BL3s instead so the height difference would not be as noticeable...

hello again,

i have read elsewhere of using a single bl3 as a center speaker. this seems an interesting solution as the bl3 is 'shorter' than the bl7.4, it even seems to just fit under the bv7-40 on a tablestand.

i have never seen the bv7-40 on a motorized tablestand (and yes, i plan to go to my dealer next week). can someone with the tablestand tell me what it is like, could i put a bl3 underneath it, would it get bumped by the dvd tray, could i put the bl3 elsewhere ?

The 7-2 does the job very well as long as you're listening 'on-axis' (ie, not at an angle to the 7-2) and as long as you're not too close (ideally at least 3m away). As soon as you start listening off-axis, the differences between the 7-2 and the 7-4 become quite large, not only because of the lack of an Acoustic Lens on the 7-2, but also because it contains two sets of drivers, you start getting sounding 'overlapping' between them, which does cause issues.

What will be the colour of the wall and cabinets, it it is white you may consider the white version of the BL9, they would disappear more.

Beolab 8000 maybe? But if you can afford the Beolab 9, it would be a pitty to get something else just for decoration considerations.

thanks for the quick responses. the cinema screen will hang down in front ot the tv itself.

i have considered putting the bl9 on the low cabinets, but i am afraid that the combination of the two will make them rather conspicuous. my only real worry about putting them on the floor is the relative proximity of a radiator. how careful should i be about getting them close to a heat source, how close is close ?

i hadn't considered mouting the bv7+bl7.4 on the wall above the low cabinets. the only question is will the screen be to 'high' up the wall for comfortable viewing ?

i am looking hard at the bl7.2 as center speaker, has anyone out there been able to compare it with the bl7.2 in this role ?

I seem to remember a thread, either here or on the B and O web page, comparing the 9s to 3s plus 2. We have 9s with our 7 and 7-4. I would try to listen to both center speakers with ALT fronts and see what you think. My wife and I really like the clarity of voices with the 7-4 but have not listened to the 7-2 so can not comment on that. I think comparing the specs of the 3+2 ro the 9s there is a great deal of similiarity but of course listening is the true test. I would not reccomend placing the 7-4 next to the TV. I don't think you would like the voices coming from next to the tv instead of centered with it.

I'd use the BL7.2 with a short BV Stand. Or I would put the TV on a wall bracket with either the BL 7.2 or 7.4/

Would the BL 9 look bad placed on top of the low cabinets, one at each end?

In cinema mode, where would be the screen compared to the TV?

hi,

the interior decoration of our appartment is reaching the finale. the last element is a sort of tv + shelving + cabinet ensemble that will fill up one wall. i had always thought to purchase a bv7-40 and go for a home cinema set up with bl9 in front, bl3 or bl6000 in rear, and a bl7.4 as a center speaker.

i have read elsewhere on the forums that it is best to use an 'all a.l.t.' set-up when possible (the rear speakers being a possible exception, but even that issue seems undecided).

my sife recently annonced that she wanted a series of low (335 mm) cabinets the entire length of the wall - the bv7-40 would sit on the cabinets. this puts some stress on my plans because i may not have the room for the bl9 and i defintely won't have the space for the bl7.4 !

assuming i can put the bl9 somewhere, i need some advice for the center speaker. i would like to know how big of a deal it would be to use a bl7.2 as a center speaker - is it a little less than a bl7.4 or a lot ? or is it possible to have bl7.4 next to the bv7-40 instead of under it ? if i can't find the space for the bl9 is bl3+bl2 a good solution ?
