I have not removed the plastic casing on the plug or checked the soldering connections inside . You are absolutely correct in saying the DIN plug is pretty much bent as it is connected to the phono input on the reciever . To access it , I have to remove the adjacent plugs . I will check the manual since I was a paid member a couple of years ago and I think I may have printed the manual . I have not removed the cartridge since it was replaced ; although , I just recently reset it as I began to troubleshoot it . Unfortunately , where I live in rather remote Vermont , USA there is little in the way of support . Boston , Mass or New York City , NY are my closest service places and 500 miles away . Today is Election Day in the US and I need to get out and vote . Hopefully the political rhetoric will diminish for awhile , although I suspect the airways will start discussing the 2012 elections very soon . :) Ralph

Re: Mono sound only from Beogram 6500

Have you taken the plastic casing of the plug apart & checked the soldered connections inside? The reason I mentioned the DIN plug is they have to be pretty much "bent" to enable you to connect to the phono input and often suffer as a result. You can check the continuity with a multi-meter by opening the deck and testing each pin of the DIN plug to its relevant point inside the deck (pins 1 & 7 carry the datalink signals for remote functions so won't need testing). The service manual is available on site for silver & gold members.

If the DIN plug wiring is fine then I really suspect it is a faulty cartridge. Have you taken it off of the tonearm frequently as they don't like this? The locating pins can lose contact with the internal coils by doing this hence the loss of a channel. Do you know anyone who can lend you a cartridge to test this?

Where are you located? I'm in Leeds if that's any help.

Chris.

Re: Mono sound only from Beogram 6500

Thank you Medogsfat for your rapid reply . I did have the cartridge replaced about three years ago . I rarely use the record player and just noticed the problem as I was about to embark on another project of transferring my vinyl's to my pc . How do I check the DIN plug electronically or just simply replace it ? Visually it seems fine . Connecting it to aux still gives left channel only .

Re: Mono sound only from Beogram 6500

Hi Ralph,

the 2 main suspects will be a loose/broken wire in the DIN plug of your beogram (cheap problem) or the cartridge has lost contact with the internal coils inside the body (expensive).

There are obviously more in depth scenarios but these are the 2 simple ones which you need to check first. If the wiring in the DIN plug is OK then try connecting your beogram to the Aux input and see if you get sound from both channels. If you are still missing a channel then it is most likely that your cartridge is at fault. Impossible to repair I'm afaraid and your only option is to replace it.

Chris.

Mono sound only from Beogram 6500

Hello everyone , I tried submitting this post earliar but it does not appear to have been sent . I have a B&O 6500 system and have noticed recently that my Beogram record player only plays in mono ; the left channel only . I have the B&O reciever connected to a Fosgate Surround Sound processor and I can simulate stereo sound but I would like full stereo from my player . The other units , cd , tapes1&2 , aux , all play just fine . Any help would be most appreciated . TIA , Ralph
