From the separates, it must've been Beocord 7000 (-1994). Beocenter 9300 was made until 2000 (and maybe some of the upright Ouverture like thingies, which I don't care about too much myself, even later), but the cassette deck in them probably wouldn't benefit much from tapes like this.

Friedmett is totally right here. I was recently given a full Beosystem 6000, with a faulty Beogram 8002 and Beocord 8004. Both cost the same to repair after shipping (about £60ish each), but for some the logic of fixing the Beogram over the Beocord would be based on the value. The Beogram is probably worth £250 in good condition, but the Beocord would struggle to make £50. Why? - the current fashion for vinyl I suppose. The Beocord was every bit as advanced as the Beogram in its day (the 9000 more so), and I just wanted to have it fixed to be able to use now and then. In fact, I probably paid more to get the Beocord fixed than it would have cost to get a working second hand one. For some of us the passion for these old machines (and B&O collecting in general) means we'll do strange things :)

The love of Beocords. Reviews back then gave Beocord 9000 among a few others State of the art. Does it still matter? YES!

Another point is the fact the Beocords are very good machines just a bit obsolete these days.

Many of them needs minor service and new belts but when they are up and running they will produce better sounds than mp3 files.

They are beautyfull work of art and deserves to be used. If I did not like the sound I would not be using it or spending the time and money getting them serviced. As my all my other B&O gives great pleasure so does my Beocords. The Beocord 9000 is state of art and its as highclass as the rest of my Beolab 8000 system.

I don't think I can love an Ipod as much.

I'm perfectly fine with the options that a Beolab 8000/Beosystem 6000 gives.

I grew up with cassetes and vinyl. I bought my first cd player in 1994 as I recall and the main reason was that new music only came out on cd.

Then I got a JVC system with 3 cds and double cassete + aux for a recordplayer etc.

I did not realize how good a cassete could sound or how the bios is different on every machine. I never got into having 3cd options but still enjoyed my Beogram 1202.

I never got rid of any tapes as I always had a way to play them. As I also have a 4 track taperecorder for recording music I always had a natural habit for tapes being in my life.

I do enjoy my CDX as I still have a large cd collection and the purpose is to be able to play them. I have recorded several DAT tapes when playing with different bands and I have DAT player for listning. The reason for choosing a DAT was it was the best way to capture rehearsels, gigs and the like with a good sound quality so I used a Sony TCD-D8 portable for that.

I don't need music on a computer with the systems I got. It will never sound as good.

I can transfer the music to computer if it needs more editing but I don't have alot that needs it.

again - just trying to understand how people listen to music and why you like tapes better than the digital options. Clearly you probably have priceless audio (old concerts etc) but please go on......

The short answer is the sound is actually stunning good!
For the first time ever I can see what good tapes/recorders are and what they can do if setup correctly.
I bought a 90 minutes tape a few months ago to test it. I then took some time too even unwrap it. Finally decided on what to try out and in the process realise that I should have done this years ago and the wish to find a great number for decent price came up rather quickly.
I'm not into Ipods or keeping music on a computer but still its a question of what to use it for with vinyl and cd being in top form. I don't need to make copies for something but I like to have options. Today I listend to a Jimi Hendrix bootleg from the 2 of september 1970 which I got some years ago on tape. The sound needed adjustments so I put the tape in a walkman and copied it to a Ferro tape. It made the tape a whole lot better. The purpose was to give the tape a chance to hear it again as he was at that very concert back then.
Just because its more easy to use does not mean its better. Also its a habit. I listen to full cds, cassetes or vinyl mostly. I don't need 300 songs to make a choise on what I want to hear.
The Beocord 9000 among others have a great realtimer systems as far as finding a song. Just push the number+go and the song will be there.

I have a question (and not trying to pick a fight, since I used to love tapes):

What do you think is the role for "tape" in the digital era?

I know this is an open ended and vague question - but I want to see why people "put up" with tape when digital options are so much easier. I have heard the arguments for records, but this is something different

I've checked Ebay and its insane with the price on TDK MA-XG tapes.

There is usally 35-40 tapes aviable on consistent basis at present.

The seller had a Yamaha tape recorder for sale and a offer to get a full box with these 60 minute tapes if you respond quickly on the ad.

Turns out he is in Struer so not far so I just asked since I got great Beocords would you sell a full box on its own?

Good deal indeed. Mint MA-XG sell at EUR 10-15 a piece on Ebay, the older versions with the metal frame are even more expensive.

I try use everything in both my systems at least once on a daily basis.

Martin serviced the Beocord 9000 for fixing display and changing the DIN plug that had gone loose. Fast forward was also fixed.

Its a beauty and it sits right next to me playing a original tape with Danish singer Kim Larsen done in US in 1978. Its funny it say recorded with Dolby B but B sounds very dark.

Cool - I've been listening to some old albums on cassette this evening, on the Beocord 8004 that Martin fixed for me. Such a great machine!
