On my "new" MX 1500 some of the presets are drifting... That means I have to finetune them now and then. It is not the same presets that needs finetuning from time to time. I do not think it is the backup battery malfunctioning, because other settings as sound and picture are well remembered. It is not a big issue, but do any of you have a solution? Thanks in advance. Just to add that where space is at a premium, such as in a bedroom, the MX1500 is a great set. I've had loads of compliments about mine, and at £50 it was probably the cheapest and least rare B&O item in my collection - but one of the best ;)

Actually, there is no additional module to interpret the BL1000 codes ... its a different version of the software in the processor.

The backup battery is a 2 cell 2.4V NiCad. You will need a soldering iron to replace ... but make sure you are correctly advised on procedures for working on TVs.

The MX 1500 is not linkable. But you can control your video sources in the main room via MCL 2AV if your audiosystem and the videosystem in the main room are linked. If the MCL 2AV is in L.OPT 2 and the MX 1500 is connected to the RF out of your videosystem you just have to press TV (to start the MX1500) and the video source you would like to watch, for example SAT. You can listen to an audio source at the same time in other (link) rooms.

Yes you can change it yourself if you have a screw driver and after disconnecting the mains (!).....

I've actually had the Philips equivalent of this tv, an excellent little tv set. I guess the MX1500 isn't linkable, or is it possible to link it via the scart? My flat has MCL2AVs in all rooms, do I have any use for an mx1500?

We have bought our MX 1500 15 years ago, because we "needed" a very small, BL1000 controllable TV in a very small bedroom. It was linked via an MCL2a to the main room. Everything worked great. We has to change the backup battery two years ago. This was the only service needed. Today it`s in my daughter`s room together with a digital stb (Beolink controllable - thanks Ulf) and a BS Century. So I think it`s a great small TV....

It's a very nice set which still has a great picture if you find a nice one with good contrast and brightness. I have a couple of them and wouldn't replace them with any small lcd television. You need to make sure the backup battery has been replaced as without it the tuner will not 'remember' channels and other settings. Sound, although mono is very good. it has one scart socket and a useful headphone jack on the front under a little flap. I think it looks great in black and guests often admire the one in the spare room - I don't tell them it only cost £45!!!

I know it is a rebadged Philips, and that it has nothing in common with the rest of the MX-series...

But when that is said, how is it? What should I look for? Any concerns with the speaker?

I do not have space for a bigger MX4000 or similar, and I want the opportunity to control the TV via BeoLink 1000 as I also have a BeoSound 1 in the guestroom...

The MX1500 is actually a rebadged Philips set. It has a module in to let it work with the Beolink 1000 but is mono and certainly not a patch on some of the other sets. Although bigger, I would look for an MX4000 or similar which is far better. All the MX sets are very cheap these days.

What should I be aware of?

What type of speaker is built in? Is it a foam-type or rubber-type?
