I thought SKY+HD broadcast in 1080i, in which case the content would have to be downscaled for the BV9 whereas it would be, at worst, only de-interlaced on a 1080p panel.

An SD tv picture has to be upscaled regardless of which HD resolution you choose as it is only 576 lines - the difference in picture quality between the two HD panels will then depend as much on the upscaler as it does on the panel.

Not really no. 1080p may have advantages with Blu-Ray, but the picture on a 720p BeoVision 9 is still streets ahead of anything I've seen from the competition.

IMO the upgrade to 1080p was more due to market pressure than for technical reasons. 1080p only really becomes a big advantage when you reach 65"+ IMO.

Another question on this topic:

some sources eg Sky HD , Apple TV HD seem to be in 720p format. Will this be better on a 720p screen or will it be exactly the same on a 1080p screen.

sorry for the questions but as a consumer I am extremely confused.

Sorry i was being cheeky! I was just referring to the basic cable mess you get with a TV and the fact you have no where to hide any of it with the BV7 pole stand

I have to say here, wires showing, immensely affects the aesthetics. I've been asked if my speakers were wireless. Also, interestingly, I am always commented on the single wire (cable snake) than runs from the BS4 on it's pole stand through the rest of my setup in my lounge room and also from the BC1...

As for technology it is the same processor as the BV9. As for price, subtract the price of a Beosystem 3 from the price of a BV7, then subtract the price of a high quality DVD player, the amount left will be about the same as for a high quality LCD from Samsung or other similiar competitor. Add in the price of a motorized stand and a Beolab 7-4 and the price is still less than 3/4 that of the BV9. For that price one receives the added functionality of an integrated DVD player and the the ability to tilt the TV forward and back, not just sideways. The picture size of the 7 is 80% of the 9. Looking at that way the price is a bargain compared to the 9 and the technology is identical, except for plasma verses LCD.
It's the pole stand of the BV7 that is impractical with hiding wire mess, the BV9 can conceal the jargon and wall outlets.
I'm sorry but i don't like comparing Non B&O electronics with B&o electronics. It's chalk and Tuna to me

Yes you can tilt the BV7, but the BV9 is, in the long run, a cooler TV. Here in OZ the BV7 40 with all the options, the price is close to the BV9, and when your spending this much cash on a TELEVISION these differences become minor, and i'm sure one can afford to buy a gorgeous beocenter 2

I agree completely as to the wires. The wires are a problem with the BV7. While I can deal with the wires to speakers, power etc, I am still trying to find a solution to a power cord to an outlet behind the TV, Masterlink and Power Link into the wall, as well as satellite connections. The Avant hid all of the wires nicely before we purchased the BV7. For hiding wires the BV9 is easily the best choice.

But it's huge. One huge box behind the TV. Mind you, the Beocenter 2 socket box is even larger. Why so big. I'm confused.

Either way, the RF modulator is something I can understand. It's not always going to be necessary, and on top of this would just mean even more cables to pass down the cable sock behind your BeoVision 7.

Don't link up your TVs then. I didn't realise this, but when B&O connected my BV7-40 to the BV8-26, you have to have a 'link box' and various aerial cables. Result is a cable mess.
Why can't B&O build this kind of stuff in to their larger TVs?

Time to put the handbag away and be helpful. The original thread was about the BeoVision 7 and BeoVision 9, not the Kuro or any other high-street brands. Hopefully this is the last time the Kuro will be mentioned in this thread.

I was not interpreting facts. I was merely responding to a post in a thread entitled "BV7-40mk3 vs original BV9 mk1 720p", and was comparing and giving my opinion on the two, in terms of function and price, directly responding to the topic.

Thank you for acknowledging that the BV7 is class leading. Glad to finally hear you say something positive about B and O.

its true the kuro does not have a cheap dvd player inbuilt - must get one for $100.
That's expensive. You can get one for far less than that.
Razlaw - if you need those BS3 'features', fantastic. Most people do not and simply want to watch TV. Hence why they prefer a non-B&O system.
