Not rare - I have two! I think £600 could be a little optimistic though - a bit under £500 in my opinion if in good condition. Problems are commonly seen with the Mute relay affecting one channel on Speaker 1. Cassette belts are another issue.

Yep, it's a Beosystem 5500. It's certainly not rare - probably the most popular of that era of Beosystems. Be aware that CD players that have had a lot of use of this age will be prone to worn out lasers, and unfortunately replacements are not available. If you can afford it better to go for one of the later 6500 or 7000 systems. Replacement styli (just as good as the originals, if not better) are availble from a company in the USA called Soundsmith, although with the £ falling through the floor compared to the $, they're not cheap!

Is this system rare? I take it that it is universally known as the Beosystem 5500?

It all depends on their working and cosmetic condition. Also key is the condition of the stylus. Assuming they are working OK and cosmetics are good, then target prices (they sometime go for a lot more) should be

Beogram £200

CD5500 - £130

Beocord - £30

Beomaster - £80

Beolinks - £35 each

MCP - £90

If they're mint then you can add 20 - 30% ish onto these prices.

It's always far cheaper to by a whole system together than buying seperately.

Hi all

Very new to the B&O scene, not sure if I can post the following within this section.

I've come across a component system consisting of a turntable Beogram 5500, CD player Beogram CD 5500, Cassette deck Beocord 5500 and an amplifier Beomaster 5500. With two beolink 1000 remotes and Master Control Panel 5500.

All in very good working order, was wondering how much are these worth.
