Problem solved! Fortunately I have Picture in Picture on my Avant. Set P in P to switch between DVD and a Freeview BBC radio station such as Radio 7. Set the radio station screen to no picture (red button then '0'). Set the stand position with the radio station selected. Then switch P in P to the DVD. The CD will play but the stand will not turn back to the zero- default position because the controls think you are viewing the small (invisible) P in P radio screen.

If anyone knows a better way to keep the (older) Avant pointing the right way when playing a CD then please let us all know!

Now find that my Avant only has three position settings on the stand menu.(1 2 0) with no separate settings for audio and video. So I guess that the above advice only applies to a later Avant or other current models.

On the stand settings in the setup menu you have 'audio', 'video' and 'standby'.. If you set the 'audio' to the position you require, it should adopt this setting when the TV realises it's playing a CD.

Whenever I pay a CD on my Avant TV the motorized stand turns the TV back to the position that the TV normally takes-up when it is turned off. I have to gently move the TV back by hand to get it to a position where it is facing towards me. Is there any way in the menu controls that I can get the TV to respond to the normal stand position buttons etc on the Beo4 whilst a CD is playing? (Does not happen with DVDs).
