I have a suspicion that B&O would run a mile!! Tim Jarmam, who can be contacted at Beocentral would be more than likely to help. He also has a fair collection of older speakers - a lot of those pictured on Beocentral are his so you could, if you live near him, and ask nicely (!), get a chance to audition some before you buy. He doesn't really sell items himself but may suggest people who can help.

I did think of buying a bigger amp that would match speakers that may struggle with the beomaster 1001as you were saying but the beomaster 1001 for me has sentimental value as my father had one when I was very small so like to listen to music how I remember it.

I did win the beomcentre 8500 a while ago on ebay but I found the bass response and scope rather disappointing compared to the 1001. With the beomaster 1001 i new exactly what I was getting. However I expect there are bigger and better amplifiers out there which would suit me but I just don’t have a clue. However I’m open to any comments or advise.

One more question. Would b&o still service my beomaster 1001’s if required. All the lights need replacing and I may need a new transformer as it's noisy and tends to over heat after a couple of hours use.

The 2702 will be fine and is designed for the smaller Beomasters. The 3800 is a UK only model and will be more difficult to drive. Very nice speaker but to get the best out of this, you need a bigger amplifier.

I like CX50s. As a link room speaker in a kitchen or bathroom, they are fine. As a main room speaker, they lack bass and I do not think I would really use them, even with a Cona sub woofer. Some people do like them though. They are also not the easiest load to drive hard.

Consider S30s and S45-2s as well. The S45-2 is another fine speaker but is again getting to a point where the 1001 might start to struggle. The Beovox 1200 was actually built for the Beomaster 1200 which is the model the 1001 is based upon and having heard these with a 1200, they match very well. There is also the 1001 which was made for your receiver and B&O did match speakers very well!

To answer your question there are lots of speakers i'm looking at on ebay but the ones at the top of my list are the beovox 3800 and 2702.

I have also been considering the beovox cx50 but as these speakers are only small i don't know if the bass response would be as good. What do you think?

I can't help feeling that Hi Fi speakers in the 70s had much better sound than today though i expect there is a lot of people who will disagree/

The Beomaster 1001 will be fine . I am willing to bet that it goes pretty loud too! As a matter of interest, which speakers?

I just need some technical info about passive speakers.
I have an opportunity to purchase some second hand b&o speakers for my
Beomaster 1001. please see specifications below.

2 x 13 watts / 8 ohms
2 x 20 watts / 4 ohms
2 x 15 watts / 8 ohms

The speaker I want to use have a rating of 25 to 60 watts.
Does this mean that my amplifiers power rating woud have to be 25 watts
Minimum or can I go below? Would the specifercation above be ok?
