Hi Christian,

IBM tend to use fairly good audio kit in their laptops, my Lenovo Thinkpad (IBM with a different label) sounds fine using the built-in headphone amp. Maybe not hifi quality, but fine for playing MP3 files.

Probably the best thing to do is to try it and see if it is good enough for what you need.

Yes Steve, that probably would work, but then I had to have the pc turned on all the time. How good is the build in headphone amp of my IBM thinkpad really? I tought the dedicated ones were better, can you confirm this Peter?

A second beomaster is probably not an option I simply got enough already, and there is not really room for more.

Just a thought:- If the BGCD3500 is going in your office, is there a PC or laptop in there?

If so, why not connect the CD player to the Line In socket of the PC and plug your headphones into the PC? = minimal cost, no extra space needed.....

I have a Musical Fidelity X-CAN V3 - and very nice is it too. Works very well with my Grado RS1s.

I wonder if you can use an MCL 2AV as a headphone amp. You could control your CD 3500 with Beo4 and hide the box. But I`m not sure about that, I never tested it. There are some BM 3500s and 3300s for about 1500 - 2000 Dkr in Blå Avis.....

A dedicated headphone amp of good quality would probably cost more than a second hand BM5000. I have a little dot micro portable headphone amp that I use with my iPod that cost around £40.
If you want to go down the headphone amp route I suggest you check out the dedicated headphone amplifier section of the forums at www.head-fi.org. They have a "For Sale" section too.

I'm also very interested, my Dad is using A8's coutesy of me, but with a small cheap mp3 player eep! Where do you get a really small headphone amp?

Where did you buy that dot micro amp? A beomaster 5000 is rather large, and the office is packed already, so something smaller would be nice for a change.

Hi there

I got a beogram cd 3500 just sitting still at the moment, and tought i might be able to use it in my home office for listening to CDs via headphones (I got a small collection). This would require a headphone amp, does anyone have experience with these? I have looked at a Rega and some others, but they seem bloody expensive, right? Should I just buy a ordinary amp with a headphone socket and use it instead? (perhaps a BM5000 or BM5500)?
