Last time my sister bought me a BeoCom 6000 from Australia. I was using it happily in Hong Kong until something went wrong and HK dealer couldn't fix it. I had to buy a new handset.

I know B&O used to sell region-free equipment in Australia, but when I ordered a DVD2, they told me that it would be region-locked to Zone 2 (arriving from UK market presumably) and would be adjusted to Zone 4 here. On the other hand I could pay to have it free-zoned but that would be outside the 'shop's' control. Issues like this cause me to worry about what's happening re both the DVD zoning and B&O's change of policy. Especially as we are moving towards to region-free Blu-Ray and the like...

Leave your STB purchase until you are in Australia to save hassles

Thanks Beoaus and Benjnz - I think these arguments are probably swaying me towards waiting until I get to Oz - I realise the culture of tax deduction is much greater in Australia than here but suspect I can't just make myself a company to get rid of the GST.

Prices are from June 1st 2007. Its good to see fairer prices and I hope increased sales follow.
These prices should to be checked with a dealer. BV7's are not available over here without Beolab 7...'s in case you are wondering.
As Benjnz mentioned DVD regions are not a problem anymore.
GST can be claimed if the TV is bought by a company.
Leave your STB purchase until you are in Australia to save hassles
I can recommed a sales rep if you need one.

The Aussie B&O sales model changed when the Danes took us back over. I think we are still under B&O Singapore though we no longer have a large warehouse full of parts, stock and B&O techs. B&O have outsourced service to some competant individuals whom are very busy.

I'd not worry about the region free aspect. Well certianly in NZ all B&O is set to region free by the dealer which does not invalidate the warranty and I'd assume AUS is the same.

Even if you buy a high street DVD player you'll find in the box a piece of paper telling you how to dezone your player

Thanks Keith - he's only gone and converted all the prices on Beoaus' list for me - what a hero.

The upshot of which is that, on today's exchange rate the BV7 32 and 40 are about £500 and £300 pounds cheaper in UK but that's without the DVB-T. The 3 beolab 7 speakers are £120-220 cheaper in UK. So not sure if worth it for me (remember I'll also get a 5% or so saving as not paying VAT but rather the smaller GST) - will have to think about it further.

Thanks for the price list Beoaus - haven't time to study in detail now as supposed to be working but eyeballing it looks like the BV7s might be considerably cheaper but the speakers not - will analyse more when time allows

are you sure about that? my dealer, where a bought my BV7 asked me if I wanted him to deregion the DVD player but said in the same sentence that I would loose the warranty if he deregioned it. not sure about this.

Prices used to be more expensive in oz. Now that the dealerships are owned by B&O directly they are competitive with the UK.

In the past I purchased some items from the UK with Australian specification where it made sense to do so, this was through friendly showroom I used when we lived in the UK. I have also made a couple of warranty claims on these items in Oz which were honoured through the international warranty most products come with, I think phones are excluded.

I'm thinking that if the dealer does it before I even see the machine that surely that can't invalidate the warranty - couldn't stand up legally.

Dear All,

thank you for the replies - my dealer has already said that they will set up for use in Australia and can deliver straight to our shipping agent to go in our container. (he will also make DVD player multi-region - apparently the only situation where they are allowed to). So, I think the only issue for me is the comparative price (apart from whether the new BV7 arrives before October that is!). Thanks for the offfer of looking up the price Beoaus - I'll PM you.
