Hi Guys,

Having heard the BeoVox 1, I must say that they are good when properly installed in the back-boxes, but IMHO they are no better than speakers from other companies who specialise in wall/ceiling speakers (ie. Kef). Once cost is added to the equation, I would always recommend Kef above BeoVox 1.

By the way, Beolink Passive is not essential, as you can use a Powerlink to RCA adapter cable (see link below for details) and drive any conventional hifi amplifier and passive speakers from a Powerlink socket (but without local remote control functions).

So if I'm considering a wall, rather than ceiling installation I'd need the boxes?

The wall I'm thinking off is actually over an open part of the end fo the bathroom where the washing machine, dryer and drying cabinet sit, so I presume it would be best to fit the boxes in that instance?

My speakers in my bathroom ceiling provide a good sound quality which can just be heard above me splashing around in the bath.

Ok, somehow a bathroom has a „special“ sound characteristic and it’s disputable whether to go the complicated way or not. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to hear the speakers the first time.

The upshot is that a speaker and its frequency-separating filter(s) is designed for a defined air volume – in case the purpose is to use it with a sealed box and not a ported one (http://www.diyaudioandvideo.com/FAQ/Speaker/). I would expect a sound quality loss if the speaker is used without the InWall cabinet. Maybe the difference is scarcely audible. Though, when there is the possibility to the use the InWall cabinet I would do it.

In my view in most cases the boxes are not needed.

However if you are fitting them to the ceiling and there is a large ceiling void, then you may wish to consider using them.

Boxes are 70 euros, more or less, each one. You will have better sound, I bet.

You are right, in most cases B&O assume customers are doing a complete build, not just adding speakers to an existing room.

These boxes are created for a new installation in a new ceiling, I guess. I can't see the way how to introduce them in my ceiling, only with the holes I made for the speakers.

No, they are not fitted in my ceiling, and sound is good enough.

B&O manufactures an InWall cabinet for the BeoVox 1 speaker, which should be used to have a defined space volume (sorry, I don’t know the exact English expression) and therefore the best possible sound quality. Details about the cabinet can be found in the Technical Specification (http://www.fux-ag.ch/inhalte/pdf/lautsprecher/BeoVox1_en%20.pdf). The attached picture shows the installation of two cabinets in the ceiling of a future bathroom.

Not sure if I understand the question. I made the hole in the ceiling to fit the speaker.
