This might be a stupid question in as much as there is not really an empirical way of finding out the answer. However, why do these break? I understand that my Avant is twelve years old etc and that prior to me having it, it probably had quite sustained usage. However, I am thinking that if I go to the hassle of putting a new old VHS in, it could go wrong in much the same fashon. Would I just have to get one out of as new an Avant as possible to minimise my risk?

Thanks

Graham

Re: Avant VHS component broken

Still available I believe but getting one from a dead Avant would be cheaper!

Re: Avant VHS component broken

Hi:

Thanks, I guess I could but that seems like a bit of a bodge - i.e. wiggle it in and hope that it works. Also something would have to be done re powering the unit. That is an option but if there are any "proper solutions" I would like to explore those first.

Graham

Re: Avant VHS component broken

IIRC the VHS in the Avant is similar to a BeoCord V8000. I am looking to replace it as I hate having stuff that is half broken. I am fairly good with electroncs. However, if I were to source a replacement unit (I don't want to bother with soldering and fault finding), is it as simple a job as undoing the back of the Avant and pulling the whole mechanism out and replacing it with a new one?

If so, what is the likelihood of me finding a working replacement unit? I would be happy to pay postage and sensible price for one if someone has a scrap Avant.

Thanks

Graham
