I have had my Beomedia 1 for about 3 years. During that time, the software was upgraded once. Can you imagine a Windows based machine with only 1 software update in 3 years.

The menus are difficult to follow and the documentation is not really very good. I must admit that in my case, I had to install the machine myself because the dealer had nobody able to do it.

The real problem is the organization of music. If you have an album with multiple disc files, it does not sort by disk number. This is also true of downloadeded music from Amazon and others. If you are loading a single disk album, there is no problem.

The internet radio function is what I use most of the time. Luckily the stations I like are in the B&O database. If you want to listen to a station not in the database, it cannot be loaded manually. However you can request B&O add a station to the database.

The system cannot play large Microsoft lossless files.

The final white version of the BS9000 will be an absolute classic. It would be nice to own one.

I am beginning to think that CDs are the new vinyl especially with the various methods of downloading music. However I don't think all the bits are there to stop buying and playings CDs.

I agree that lossless music files sound just like a CD but for the time being, one must rip a CD to get a lossless file. There are some download services that have FLAC and lossless downloads available. As a lover of classical music, my choices are mostly limited to continuing to purchase and rip CDs Deutsche Grammophon does sell 312kb MP3 download that are quite good.

I too hope Beosound 5 is wonderful but my experience as an owner of Beomedia 1 leads me to believe I should wait for the MKII version of Beosound 5.

What I will be looking for in the Beosound 5 is a digital output connector, ability to play large lossless files from multiple discs in the same album, and of course Apple lossless capabilities.

It is a different experience. Technically with loss less decoding there is no need for the CD.

Practically, I like the CDs. I like to choose by cover. I get lost in my iPOD list. And I am overwhelmed by the quantity of songs. I like to have new cds stacked up close by my cd player.

I know there are smart play list, coverflow etc. I just haven't found teh right solution yet for the home. Sonos and Apple TV & Ipod touch may work but it doesnt look like I would want it.

BS5 has the potential, but only with 2 way remote functionality. And I dont mean Beo 5.

That Tablet comes better off the podest. I think it will.

I disagree completely. I think the design is brilliant, it is fast, and my unit has never failed. To be able to select 6 CDs for a dinner party and play them randomly is very good.

A.mem is simply better for that function. BS9000 is realistically becoming unpractical and the CD changer is now a bit of a gimmick, i personally dislike the out of date product now, it's too old like BS3200! I used to love it, but now theres a better way to enjoy your music

I think they pushed pricing too far.

I have seen an overload of nice design in recent years and it is much more difficult to stand out. , but I haven't seen anything leaving a lasting impression like BS9000/BL8000 and mies van der rohes furniture..

I do love the superbass, too. But only when it comes out of a subwoofer big like a washing machine ;-)

That thing needs no loudness or sound adjustement; it just has natural power ;)

back to topic:

I hope that B&O will keep the BS9000 in the program, it's a very nice machine. Perhaps they can update it with MP3-Support from discs or s.th. like that.

I think that it is highly likely that the "sound improvement function" that B&O is going to implement is something to more of the likes of Linn, Wadia, DCS and Meridian technologies. In theory a hard disk based system can provide better sound than a direct from cd player, the new technologies employed by the companies mentioned uses special filtering techniques to try to minimize jitter and recreate an impulse/waveform structure like that of a natural analog waveform. So if the Beosound 5 is well designed, it's performance should surpass like 99.9%of the disc players on the market by accurately extracting information from the hard disk and employing newer more advanced filtering techniques. Well let's hope B&O is going this classy route instead of the usual cheapo equalization route.

In that case I will take one please.

From what I´m been told it´s not a bestseller.
I believe Cd´s out in a few years. My dealer told me that BS5 comes with a new patented system to improve sound.

Electronics to artificialy improve sound is NOT what I understand from Hi-Fi! Electronic corrections can be done by every cheapo company.

In my opinion an audio device should NOT add anything! It has to put out the music as good as it comes from its source (e.g. CD, Tape, MP3-File, WAV-File etc.)

From B&O I expect high quality HIFI and no artificial sound. Btw the Beosound 5 seems to look GREAT! ;)
