EDIT, having thought about this, it may well be that the customer who traded it in used the £500 discount voucher for a working TV trade in against a new BV. In that case the dealer may even take less for it as the discount is a company led intitiative. Either way £500 is still a steal IMO.

No, twas a DVD - heres the odd thing - the service screen showed 0000 hrs on the dvd - the guy must never had used it! Obviously I would be checking to see if it worked before i parted with the readies. The screen did seem a little dark when compared woth the plasmas etc in the shop but the shop manager said this was normal.

I take it that this is a VCR model? £500 for an RF model is good in my view - having said that the dealer will be aching to get rid of it!

Thanks guys - soo much info - what can I say? nice little community you have here!

Well I also popped into my local B& O dealership in the hope of finding an employee who had been there long enough to remember the old CRT models.

Would you beleive it the had a 32" RF avant in the shop - someone had traded it in!

well it seems ok to me tube count was 432 days - audio count was double that.

£500 what do you guys reckon?

Ironically my parents have now decided that they want to get a new TV!!!

My vote BV3 32 i hade one for years and updated it with surround and the anti reflective screen, fab picture and sound from the internal speakers even if you dont plan on a surround setup.

Chris you are correct, the BV3-32 has the same chassis as the Avant. Where the BV3-28 shares the same chassis as the BV1.

Thanks for the plug Jeff. If you want a widescreen TV then as suggested Avants are fantistic value at the moment. Or look at the BV3, built on the same chassis(Internals) as the Avant.

Many thanks, I was slightly leaning towards the Avant models! But what is an RF tube? will the seller specify this? How do I identify a curved screen one? surely all the CRTs have slightly curved screens - thats partly why I want one! Interestingly - none of the ones on ebay are like my parents - all much newer!

RF= Real Flat. Fairly easy to distinguish - all of the DVD models have them & only the later VHS versions. Also when you look at the profile the screen is absolutely flat as a pancake, with the non-RF there is a slight curvature. If you're in any doubt simply ask for the model number from the back label and cross referrence it to the different versions on the Beoworld products pages.

I was in same situation like you !

And I was bought Beocenter 1 from Lifestile AV.

From my point of view BC1 is the most beautiful CRT TV on the market EVER produce, sophisticated design, slightly curved front glass, triangle speaker cabinet, (look at the new beovision 4 and beolab 10 ) beautiful choice of different motorize stand, truly B&O design, outstanding picture and sound quality, even it looks astonishing from back! This peace of equipment is an art, stand alone sculpture.... that have some sound and emotions even when is turn off :) Do I need to say more.... :)

Second one is Beovision 3 - 32, same picture qualiy like an 32 avant! great !

I agree. You can't go wrong with an Avant! One of the best TVs ever made.
They have a great following on here, and as Chris pointed out, they are fetching ridiculously low prices at the moment. £5,000 telly for £500 seems the norm!

I imagine you parents have something like an LX5500. You can get something like an LX6000 for less than £100 these days. The MX range come a variety of sizes and both of these sets will probably have a better picture than the widescreen ones. However they are getting old. I would agree with the above and get an Avant RF. You can tell these as the entire front is a glass screen. Beocentral does a good description.
