Now as for room size etc, I live in a 3 bed semi-detached in Dublin Suburbs so my living room is maybe 12' by 16' , i.e Smallish...lololol. Do they dominate? Yes they do, but I can live with that.

I have 5's as front, 4000's as rear on stands, the beoSound 9000 and the BV7-40 (Mk111).

I played some choral music last night (Arvo Part's KANON POKAJANEN) and it was utterly sublime and as near perfection as you can get. Then I played David Gilmore's (ex Pink Ployd) ON AN ISLAND and again, perfection to my ear.

Once I get the room fully sorted, Ill post a few pics.

my only quibble now is that you may get yours for £6000, but I paid Euro 10,000 for mine :(:(...lolol. But thats Dublin for u - everything is more expensive here. However, they are Euro 16.000 new. So I guess as a once-in-a-lifetime purchase, its ok.

Cant wait to watch Avitar or some such DVD to test the surround effects.

In short, I'd advise the 5's if you are alllowed to turn your living room into a B&O Chapel of Worship. I did, and now im listening to Keane West and I couldn't be more happy with my decision:):):)

One can argue what the speakers is to be used for but i have not regret switching to Bl5´s even though the 9´s did a very good job in my flat. I can't hear a difference. Frankly, if I'm to buy an additional pair in the future, I'll probably go for a second hand one - from a reliable source. The risk with BL5s is that they will turn a sonar on to your collection of music. Things that the producers get away with for compact sound systems just fall short through the BL5s. And once you experience truly well produced music through them you'll go shopping for more.

BTW - ECM Records is a really good bet if you are looking for excellently produced music that will reproduce brilliantly. (And I have no shares in their company, should have!)

http://www.ecmrecords.com

Re: New Beolab 9 or used Beolab 5?

Henry:

Yep good point. I can tell you this if you love music then they are great and opens a lot of opportunities to have many hours of enjoyment, but I will give you a warning (if you can call it that) and of course it's all up to you. You will fast discover that your CD collection or what ever you have, will shrink big time and you suddenly what to go out a buy new music (music recorded in good quality) now why is it like that, it simple the BL5's is so transparent that they will reveal any bad recorded music - there is simple no mercy what so ever this is of course great if you know this and this is what you want, but if you just use them in any other case you might want to think about again. But if you think like me, it’s the best of both worlds; both sound and style then go for it!

Now I have tons of CD that I don't like to play any more, and I always search for new CD, other types of music, music style that I didn't liked before, but after I got the BL5''s it have opened up to a new world of music, and all the music from your collection that is left, maybe that would be like having a lot of new CD’s, though they are still the same as before, but now they suddenly sound better or just different.

And I will pass this advice on to you that I got from Tom!

Tom:

If you use you setup for music, then go for the BL5, you will never regret it. If not, then you don't need them.

Good hunt
