The composite signal is just a sum of them. This is not the quite correct way to do it, but depending on the equipment, length of cabling, etc, you might get away with it and have a pretty decent picture.

Many TV out display adapters do just this in their adapters (an S-video plug in the other end and an RCA socket in the other), so you might actually have a ready made solution in a junk box near you.

Re: Is there such a thing as an S-video to composite converter?

Not sure if this is a "correct" way to do it or a bodge

Is there such a thing as an S-video to composite converter?

Hi:

This is a little off topic. However, I was wondering if anyone new if there is such a thing as an S-video to composite converter? I am looking to run a single phono cable to the s-video socket on a media server and run the other end to my Beovision 1 and possibly wirelessly to my Avant via a video sender (not the prettiest way of distribution but it should work).

If not I could just get a videocard with TV out already built in, probably for next to nothing but if I don't have to buy another card then I would rather not.

I could just use S video but I never have much luck with those cables and always end up with black and white picture etc which is probably easily remidied yet I now take an instant dislike to S video in general.

Thanks

Graham
