I asked the same question a while back and took the advice of renting a van and moving it upright with loads of padding etc. around it. Looking back it was well worth the price of the van rentall to know that it was being transported properly and stood the best chance of not getting damaged in transit.

Sorry if this is curt, going to bed hence quick reply:

In my opinion DO NOT ship it laying down on its front, side or back this CAN although I am not saying it WILL put unnecessary pressure on the tube and damage it. This is a moot point but whenever I have moved anything CRT related I have always been advised to transport it as it was intended to be used - upright. Also, you could misalign the heads in the VHS by having it tilted forwards - again unlikely but possible.

New tube + labour = £500 around (maybe more) if you want to run the risk of paying near enough £1000 for a repair job in the unlikely even that it breaks then do it. If I was you the cheaper option is to rent a transit or something a bit smaller and buy some straps, old blankets and tie it to the wall of the van.

Its the best TV, finish. I had one, my dad still has one. I got the BV7 now, but in the 2 weeks of owning it, i had to return it, get a new one etc etc. Forget the wife on this one ;0

Have a listen to the Avants speakers first, and then ask yourself if you reeeeeally need the bl2. It would look really nice i guess but personally, the avant is loud and one thing i dont believe is how deep/strong the bass is.

What i did is I downloaded 'Shaggy - Luv me up' on my ipod, and changed the EQ on the ipod to Bass Booster. Then I played the song at nearly top volume, it goes like:

Verse 1:
Tell dem Mr. Lover keep dem rockin and sing
More time mi have di woman pon mi bed spring
Tell dem Mr. Lover unda pure timin
Anyting mi chat mi chat it wid rhymin
Woman dem love how mi sing

Chorus:
Mi woman just a love mi up
Tek di weight up off my shoulda when she hug mi up
Throw mi troubles through the window when she rub mi up
She's the Queen that wear my ring

When it hits the chorus 'Mi woman just a love mi up' you will not believe your ears, I surely couldnt believe mine. I think its because the avant speakers are wider than lets say the BL8K and therefore the bass is deeper. But all the friends i have over start looking at the back of the avant, trying to find a hidden sub! Serious.

In most ways my dream TV at a dream price......the wife does like the BV7!!

Problem is I now need a BL2 and either a pair of BL6Ks or BL4s as rears....

Something I never needed with an MX4000 !!!!!

and yes it is an RF model......

Matress is a good idea, cushions as well. Blanket for it not to scratch things and some rope to secure it in place... I think you're sorted.
What i get most worried when transporting is the ouverture/BS3000. Its the glass and clamper that get me so worried that i have to hug it for the whole trip with my dad driving! haha, i think i shoukd seek help!
I bought a cabinet, 4 drawer one from a b+o shop (used). It came completely mutulated in the post and was packaged well. The dealer reordered all the broken parts, so now, hehe; its as good as new.
Can I ask how much you paid for it? The Avant?

GBP415..... absolute bargain in my opinion.....
If only I could find a BeoLab 2 for that price

Andy's spot on about the weight. My 28 inch RF turned up in the B&O shipping crate and two burly blokes could barely lug the thing up the stairs at the front of my house.

My vote would be to get the original crate, but if you can't, then don't lay the set down on its back/front if avoidable. The manufacturer clearly shipped it upright for a reason, so if the crate doesn't appeal, then go with Andy's suggestion of strapping it to the inside of a van or something.

You will love the set when you get it though :)

This has been discussed before and, if I remember correctly, resulted in mixed opinions.
I rented a Transit van to collect mine from nearly 200 miles away and kept it upright, strapped to the side of the van. As long as you don't take roundabouts on two wheels, there shouldn't be a problem.
It is bloomin' heavy so if the seller can't help you load it, take someone with you.
You'll love this telly when you get it!

I bought my Avant used from a B&O dealer, and paid extra for the original packing crate to have it shipped in. Unbelievably sturdy and well useful for if you plan to move the Avant in the near future. You will need some storage space though!
