At last I got around to getting a Beomaster: it is a beomaster 3500 that I bought yesterday together with a Beogram cd 3500 and a beocord 3500, for just £210, that is a ok price, right?

At the moment I just have one speaker connected, a Dali 2 (danish shelf speaker from the 1980'ies), but i am going to pair it with the one working Beovox S30 that I also got. Should do allright at low volumes.

Yep

And as a start, I'll probably just use one Beovox s30 and a kenwood amp my parents don't use anymore. Then I'll see how much i use the setup and then i can always upgrade to something better.

Wow, you can get bm3000 for only 20 pounds in the UK? they are around 3 times that in Denmark, I have just checked dba.dk and there a bm1900 goes for around 60 pounds... Aparently we are qiute expensive here in Denmark... I probably just have to wait until the right offer comes along, or start importing. But all in all, the 1900-2000-2400-3000-3300-3500-4500 beomasters are probably the ones to go for, they could sit in the counter below the window and look stylish without attracting too much attention. Now the question is how much I want to spend.

BeoLab 5s, of course. The others will just have to live with it!

A friend of mine, who is a designer, installed a Beomaster 2000 with a Beogram 1200, both white, in his office -- and put two Beolab 3000s (I think it was, may have been the 4500) up on the walls. Then he attached a white iPod to the Beomaster, and was all set to go.

Much envy all around. His Beomaster didn't have the dents this one is showing (found the pic on the net.)

A wall mounted Beomaster 3000, and you should be able to pick one up for around £20.
With Beoport added, you could have some control with your Beo4.

How about a Beomaster 3300. These seem to sell for less, the finish seems less desireable. Also a Beomaster 2000 would be ideal if you don't need remote control.

i think that whatever you choose -i would def go for a bm w/ remote control. that way you won't need to leave your desk to mute or lower the volume for calls or walk-ins. with that said, i would pass on the 1900 and look towards at least the 2400-2 w/ a remote as a minimum.
of course, i agree w/ the 4500. it will likely be what i choose as well. keep us posted! when i finally get mine setup, i will try to post some pics in a few months.

My desk is fairly large and i got a counter running below the window, ideal placement for a non-remotecontrolled beomaster. I would like a BM4500 as it looks great and is not too large, but probably too expensive, 1900 is more reachable but old by now. As a start, i think i will use the one working beovox and a old phillips reciver, and then see what comes up on dba.dk or ebay, sometimes i see beomaster 3500 for 100 pounds, that would be great.

just back from a ~2 week hiatus... good thread to jump back in...
christian, i am in a similar situation -moving to a new office in ~3 months.
here is my experince and thoughts about what i am going to do.

originally i had a bc7700 thru s45's on stands that used to be setup near the entrance to my office. that was great and i controlled it w/ a terminal. problem was that: invariably people walking into my office would always set something down on it. the odd folder/drawing/paper never really bothered me. however, one day someone walked in and place their 64 oz. "big gulp" condensating plastic mug of cola right on it as if it was just an old formica bartop! uggh! shortly thereafter i broke it down and moved it home.

i replaced it with a bm2400 thru old 2200's sitting on my desk.
not terribly valuable, and i do not use a remote. works great as it is in reach.
if your desk is big enough, a similar arrangement may work for you.

ffwd to the new office: i decided that the best solution was to go for a wall mount. noone would be able to set anything on it and i would regain desk space. as the office is currently under construction -i had blocking placed around the perimieter for wall mounting.

now i just have to decide (and to your question) what to use...

if i go the inexpensive route: likely another 2400/3000/3300 w/ p45 panels or 3k passive panels.

not so inexpensive but winning: a full 4500 wall mount -ttable w/ bl4k's or 3k active panels.

hmmm...

I plugged my S30's in for the first time in ages last night and it reminded me how good they were. Little in the way of bass but a nice warm sound, ideal for your intended use, have you asked Martin if he has a tweeter?

I have a Beolab 1700/Beomaster 1700 combo in my study. I know it's essentially a Beomaster 1100 in two boxes instead of one, but I like the way the 1700's look together! Cost less than £20 for the pair.

Beomaster 1900 is a good bet too, start of a new design era for B&O (very hard to believe mine is 30 years old!). More than adequate for your purposes.

I don't think you can go too far wrong with any of the non-japanese 1970's and early 1980's stuff to be honest. am always looking for an excuse to buy more but I have run out of places to put it!
