My BL3s sound way better with music, when disconnected from the BL2. The BL2 was no good with fast-moving electronic music. It was far too slow for the beolabs when listening to music, and for 5 thousand dollars, it didn't make any sense to have. I couldn't fault it when watching a movie though... (i rarely watch movies)

The Bowers and Wilkins PV1 mentioned also many times is a very commendable sub to go with beolabs, look into that one for connecting to your BeoVision.

Also, the dolby (powerlink) plugs on your beovision will do the filtering a bl2 would normally do and any volume adjustments if necessary. It's a smaller unit too with a less intrusive aesthetic.

I didn't at all like the size and design of the BL2 in our house. This is why i can not recommend it. Listen for yourself though mate, we all perceive sound individually, and we all have differing opinions.

Re: Is Beolab 2 "necessary" with Beolab 1 and 7-4?

Dave:

I can't recommend the BL2 but a good sub with those speakers in that setup should really add alot to the sound.

Because you hav not heard it, or because you do not like it...? Remember that in addition to low tones, a subwoofer will add physical texture which I find indispensable in music reproduction as well as in video setups. The strike of drum or the pluck of a string doesn't sound complete unless all the appropriate senses register the event.

Hope this helps!

Re: Is Beolab 2 "necessary" with Beolab 1 and 7-4?

takktakk:

Hi all.

I just bought a BV 7-40 with the 7-4 speaker (have not received it yet) and also bought Beolab 1...

Although I've now disconnected my BL2 with the 7.4/BL9 combo, I'd certainly recommend the BL2 with the combo you suggest.
