I think it depends on what you look for in a picture. The 100Hz Avant and BV3 have quite a few digital artefacts which some people find objectionable. Each set is usually a compromise - for colour an old 3400SJ is great but you wouldn't want to use one every day.

Well, I'm still not agreeing with you on the picture quality....but of course it is also a matter of taste!

My main focus is the quality of digital SD signals, which almost anyone in Norway are forced to use due to new technology. If your set-top box leaves you with format problems only, I can see the problem. Extremely irritating! However, my set-top box goes very smoothly with my Beovision 3-32, and the format is always correct automaticly. (format 3 mostly). But I know som boxes doesn't match to well with Beos format options.

I mean of course that the MX 7000 is a great set, I've been using one myself for 12 years. But with my "new-used" cheap to buy Beovision 3-32 I recon what was a small step of improvement for you, became a giant leap for me!!!

I just love my television, now complete with surround sound, and I hope it will last for many years still. Because I have it in the corner, many people think it is a flat panel TV. And all of my guests are amazed with the picture....

Anyways...me first real "discussion" here on the forum. Great fun!!!!

A good analogue signal on an MX7000 will beat the Avant and BV3 hands down (in my opinion) any day of the week :)

Most broadcasts in the UK leave you fiddling around with the format on the Avant (my main reason for not wanting to use one anymore) ... it was the shall I watch in format one and get side bars ... or format two and lose the top or bottom or format three and watch fat people ... none of which was satisfactory.

When it comes to the snooker and other broadcasts that work so much better on 4:3 ... the 16:9 is left standing!

One day, it will improve ... but that day has not yet come and meanwhile I am happy to enjoy my beautiful set, whose tube has already lasted 10 years and will be cheap and easy to replace when the time comes :)

You will need a top plate to convert the MX4000 motorised based for the MX7000 ... probably these are available from your dealer ... or just buy a cheap floor stand from ebay and raid it from there. The one from the 5000, 5500, 6000 or 7000 are ok.
Personally I think 16:9 is massively overrated.
The picture on my MX7000 is beautiful ... extremely easy on the eye and whilst of first impressions its not as sharp and bright as the avant ... it is far nicer to watch for extended periods.

Maybe it's different in UK, but here in Norway almost any tv-channels is broadcasting in 16:9. So here it is not overrated at all. If you have a 4:3 set like the MX 7000 you cannot control the format. And you are stuck with black bars on top/bottom, and you will also lose a little bit of the picture on each side!

To chararacterize the pictrue on a MX 7000 as beatiful????? Well, then you must be talking about with analog signals and not digital SD. With a digital set top box and SD signals (also DVD), the MX 7000 isn't in the same league as Beovsn 3-32 and 32 Avant! Finito!

I agree that the deep back on the Beovsn 3 is a challenge, but the best way to hide that is to put in a corner! GONE!!

I know this isn't a thread about Beovisn 3-32, I just got a bit eager here. Today everyone is buying cheap flatpanel televisions, but the thruth is if you have an Avant 32 or a Beovision 3-32 you will not get a better image before HD is standard on normal broadcasting!

Given that I want the BV7-32, the BV3 is too expensive for me at this point, also its depth is an issue.....

Here is my lounge set up at the moment, you can see the sofas either side of the coffe table (just) hence my need for a motorised stand!

I thought that too when i read the post!! HERE HERE.

The picture quality is utterly sublime.

And Peters comments are very fair, the back is the negative to the set, i've over come this by having the tv on a stylish bench in front of a window bay, so the rear of the tube disappears into the window sill, brilliant!

The sound is good for the size of the drivers, but not hi-fi, get the beolabs to do that job :)

Did you know you can get a motorised base to go with the BV3_32, (not the cabinet an actual module that fits under the set) you just need to look hard. I haven't found one yet, but until i do, it's not important, this is the best picture i've seen to date.

The BV3-32 is very similar to an Avant 32. Slightly smaller speaker enclosures but not so you would notice. Very good and under rated set. The 28 is not the same at all and was a loss leader designed to get you into the shop. Nothing like the sound and the chassis is actually the late MX/BV1 chassis rather than the Avant. The only problem I have with these sets is the size - they are really very deep! The Avant gets away with it as it is free standing but the BV3 looks as though it is going to be a flat screen till you get round the back!

Yes you can, motorised stand is no problem! The picture quality on the MX 7000 is poorly compared with the late versions of the Avant and Beovision 3. I cannot speak for the MX 8000.

I think buying av 4:3 set isn't somthing I would even consider for my living room tv. You gotta have 16:9.

Just my opinion....

I use an AV2 expander with my AV9000 (posh MX6000!) and it works fine.

I do have the AV2 expander, but never have much luck getting it to work.....

I think it might be my actual scart cables though!

Don't think I could get a BV3 as cheaply as the MX and whilst I agree the picture quality would be better on the BV3, lack of a motorised table stand is a big negative for me.
