Hi Foxtrott,

you are correct - It is the video terminal in which case I may have blundered.

Despite pressing every button on the remote I appear unable to access the Menu of the TV to assign the AV socket - I am resigned to possibly reselling the Beolink Video Terminal remote and trying to get a Beolink 1000 or simply perservering with turning the Sky reciever off and on each time I wsih to use the MX

Hi Faz!

As mentioned before by others you need to configure the AV sockets in the TV setup menu to activate them via the remonte. For example if you define the AV1 socket as "V.TAPE" it will be activated when you press "V.TAPE" on the remonte.
I don't know which configuration option would be the best for the Sky-reciever but V.TAPE might work. As far as I know the "SAT" command on the Beolink is used only for the optional internal (analogue) Sat-tuner of the MX, so you can't use it for the external Sky-reciever.

By the way concerning the remonte: The one in the auction you have won is not a Beolink1000 but an "Beolink Video Terminal". It is a predecessor of the Beolink1000 that misses the audio components (like radio and cd) but it should work fine for the TV.

For a CD+Radio combination you could consider a Beocenter2300 (or a BC2500 if you want a tape option). You could easely link them to your MX4000 (via Datalink cable) and also use the speakers of the MX for audio if you don't want to take the plunge on the active Beolab speakers yet.

That's because the B&O remote control philosophy is a bit different from others. You're not expected to select sockets or interfaces (and try to remember what is connected where) - instead, you simply select the source you want to see (or listen to). Therefore you need to configure the interfaces first.

I believe the best strategy is to connect your receiver to AV2, then configure the AV2 socket to be a "decoder", and then assign a tv channel preset (say channel 9) to need a "decoder" (you can tune it to any frequency). This may sound hairy, but should be clear once you look into the user manual or explore the menus

Then, whenever you call up "TV 9", the MX will use the signal from your Sky box and not care about the signal from its internal tuner. If you don't have any analogue channels left to watch (I don't), you can do as I did; configure TV preset 1 as "decoder" and remove all other preset channels. After that, simply "TV" will turn the MX on and it will automatically switch to your Sky box.

If you have another external source (like a DVD), I think you can connect it to AV1, configure AV1 to be a "non-B&O VCR" and press VTAPE on the remote to select it.

Regarding the membership, you may find it a little expensive as long as you only have a single B&O product. But once you get a couple more, you'll find that you actually save money (and time!) compared to hunting after manuals and info on the net, buying them on eBay, and so on. However you choose, I'm sure you'll be just as welcome to post on the forums! We're all addicts here, so we know

Hi guys,

it arrived today in the condition as described (with 3 new duracell batteries as well ) - weighs a ton - Wow on the quality

I still cannot sort the AV out though - I have to turn my Sky reciever on and off and the TV auto switches to the AV input but no AV selector on the remote which I found strange

If I leave the Sky on and turn the TV on and off it goes back to TV1 and I have to turn the Sky off and on again to get the AV back

ps I am contemplating the gold membership - Showed the wife the prizes on offer and she was impressed - I am looking at a CD and AM/FM reciever next for my kitchen so I may be around here for a bit yet

next year- new TV for the lounge - If only they did the Avant on a 40" (and second hand Avant price )

Not to discourage anyone from upgrading their membership, but the MX4000 user manual is available from the B&O site as well once you register to the community. It is the Beo4 version, though, but I'd expect the setup menus to be the same.

Nice one Faz, a good price if it's as described - they do sell for a lot more than that occasionally. As has been mentioned by others and myself - upgrading to silver or gold membership gives you access to all of the set-up and user manuals - the TV's and video's do more than many people realise but without the manuals it can be hit and miss finding them out. To get the best use and value/quality from you purchases it's worthwhile - Gold memebership also gets you into the monthly prixe draw each month automatically!. If you win, you'll expand your B&O collection.

The Beolink should work straight off as there are buttons to select TV, Text , Aux etc. A copy of the TV handbook would be useful - can be downlaoded as a gold or silver member.

thanks for that - If i buy the beolink 1000 from Ebay - will it work straight off or does it need some kind of 'pairing/learning' process?

look forward to hearing about the other questions - I would love to have some details on a supplier I could ring for the small parts needed such as the wheel for the stand

Hi!

Your type number suggests you should go for a beolink 1000, not Beo4. You cannot do much without remote. The Beo4 will not work as well as beolink 1000 to your model.

I know, I have a MX6000 same age as yours and a much newer Mx4002 with beo4.

As far as I know, the MX4000 originally would have used a Beo4, but you can work it with a Beolink 1000 as well.

Also regarding the stand

it seems to be the original one but the left hand wheel has gone - The right hand one is fine - can these be purchased at all - the circular wheel inner is still there so it will be the click in part I need

Also there is the power option for a motorised stand n the back of the TV but it does not appear have any motorised function on the stand itself - I assume this is extra again but the stand looks like previous motorised ones I have looked at

Hi all - first post so go easy on me

I have long admired B&o stuff but thought it the land of millionaires b ut I purchased a second hand MX4000 yesterday.

The model is:

Type: 33/23 GDT sw 1.1

Mk II

Unfortunately it has no remote control - I can turn the unit on with the left hand button at the front and it shows TV1 - by pressing this it changes channels up to TV7 and loops round - I can then turn the TV back onto Standby

What I cannot do is access AV1 or AV2 and wondered if there was a shortcut

A couple of questions I would like to ask is:

1) Am I stuffed without a remote to select AV?

2) The protective screen (not glass - maybe acrylic?) has a scratch on it - are you aware of a filler I can use or how much would a new screen be

3) I am watching the Beo 4 remote and Beo 1000 remotes at the moment - which would be the right one?

4) The black Mesh on the speakers has a couple of splash marks on them - can the front unit be easily removed to clean it easier

5) I bought some T-cut on the advice I read from a similar listing from Lifestyle AV - Is this the best to clean up the glossy panel

Really appreciate any advice you guys /gals can give me - I really am dipping my toe here into really high end kit and I can see myself getting hooked having seen some of the kit available.
