But it is not entirely true, as stated in an earlier post, that film mode doesn't do anything to improve the end result: It will make sure that details of a moving object appear clearer (compared to "sport/regular mode", where the texture of a ball is not as important as a fluid movement) - the side effect is the well-known ripple effect between the moving object and the background.

Roger

Re: Poor picture quality DVD player BV7

Hi Roger,

do you know if the AUTO mode tries to detect a film only once when a source is selected
(when switching tv channels or starting a DVD), or is it done continuously?

If the latter is true, there might be a chance that the film mode is activated inadvertently,
for example when someone watches a sports event. In that case I think it is best to
either set the mode to ON or OFF.

When watching a DVD the Film Mode would be on always, but by selecting AUTO you could avoid activating it while watching a football match recorded on a DVD. AUTO will try to detect if the material is a movie or not.

Roger

Re: Poor picture quality DVD player BV7

Roger:

Michael,

Yes, the Film Mode function is meant to process moving pictures in a different way when watching a movie compared to, say, sports. This is the only (recent) movie when, for the first time in years, I turned on the Film Mode!
