Is it not a mistake to consider Freesat as an alternative to Sky HD?

I understood Freesat to be an option for those people who were unable to receive Freeview.

The HD content on Freesat is minimal,and what there is is mainly BBC sport.

Given ITV's financial problems,their roll out of HD content is problematic,and Channel 4 is talking year end at the earliest for their HD transmissions.

All in all,rather a damp squib.

You are correct that there is a DVB-T/S module for the Beovision 7 and you can receive the "Freesat" stations along with many other "Free-to-air" channels, however it is not packaged for Freesat with the EPG as intended etc..

The STB's for Freesat are intended for only "Freesat" channels..

I guess but all the semi-decent channels like Dave and Virgin1, Sky Three are not on Freesat for obvious reasons. I know Murdoch is money grabbing yet Virgin Media and Sky both have the better channels in my opinion. Obviously this is because it is a subscription service. However...

I can't see Freesat flopping. The whole industry is going HD mad, and Freesat is giving people an option to jump-aboard the HD bandwagon without donating their income to Mr. Murdoch.

It's taking off quicker than Freeview did, partly because the BBC and ITV have both learnt from the mistakes made with Freeview.

Don't know why (not being sarcastic) but I think this is going to flop. BTs offering isn't that great either in my opinion.

I doubt it, Freesat was started by the BBC and ITV as a joint venture, I can't see them getting tied up to only one manufacturer - they'd want it to be available to as many as possible.

I hope so as the sky HD box is not very reliable (4 replacement in 6 months and now I hav egone back to my old panasonic non HD one which has been reliable for 5 years) and also less external boxes. I heard from my local dealer that panasonic has exclusive use of in-bult freesat in their tv and as a result proved very popular. I wonder if other freesat external boxes are more reliable?

Looks like panasonic have just relaesed the first TV with Freesat built in. Could this be the way forward?
