We have been very fortunate buying speakers. I have never paid full retail for a pair.
6000s dealer ordered in for another cutomer, customer did not want, and if I remember correctly we received a 15% discount
4000s first pair dealer display pair, 20% off
4000s second pair dealer display pair 70% off and had to buy new grills
1s dealer display pair approximately 40% off
9s had been on dealer's floor for one month, 40% off

LOL No, we were not wearing masks...just there on the right day. Same dealer had a 720p BV9 with for just over 50% off when the 1080p came out.

We have not changed anything electrical in the house other than adding 4 low voltage lights to our outdoor low voltage lights.

Does the fact that the buzzing is worse when connected to one rear output on the Avant compared to the other rear output indicate anything?

I have not yet had a chance to try the 6000s. The very loud intermittant buzzing does seem to have disappeared by switching from the one rear output to the other.

The very soft buzzing, if my ear is withing a couple of inches of the speaker, is still there.

BeoLab 9's one month old and 40% off? Were you wearing a mask and holding a gun when you popped in? Waving around 'candid pics'?

PS. I'm with Keith here, you have the system on 2 different power circuits in the house, based on your description. This alone is quite often sufficient to cause such a problem...but you say that it just popped up. So we cast a wider net. Has anything else in the house changed recently? I'm thinking especially about a dimmer/fader added nearby. Some of these things cause a lot of noise.

Razlaw,

Switching out the BL-1's with the 6000's is a good idea, will eliminate the BL-1's as the culprit.

By the way, you have too many speaker choices in your household! (is my jealousy showing? )

May the correct solution be the cheapest as well! Good luck

The system has been set up this way for 3 1/2 years. First with 6000s and now with the 1s. The problem has never manifested itself before. The intermittant buzzing was very loud. The Beolab 1s are plugged into Panamax wall outlets that are wired on a dedicated circuit. The Avant is plugged into a Panamax power conditioner which in turn is plugged into a Monster Power Voltage Stabilyzer.

Should I try switching out the 1s for the 6000s and see what happens?

if the foot stands on the pl cabel that can also gives High frequencie buzzing.

Based on your problem statement and assuming the problem has always existed in the current configuration setup, but you just had not noticed it, I would say that you either have:-

An earthing issue
Mains pickup (less likely)
Faulty powerlink module in the AVANT

To test the first point (earthing issue) which in my view is the most likely cause, take a piece of wire and connect one end to mains earth and connect the other end to the screen of the aerial plug/socket on the AVANT. If the noise disappears, then you have an earthing problem.

Beolab 1 buzzing

We have an Avant with Beolab 9s in front and Beolab 1s in the rear. The 1s are connected to Panamax in wall B and O power link boxes which are in turn wired through the walls to another Panamax box behind the Avant. I run one power link from the Avant to box behind it. Tonight I noticed a periodic buzzing from one of the Beolab 1s that sounded like a bee buzzing. I removed the grill and was able to hear a contstant low level buzz from the middle of the speaker, from what I believe is the tweeter. I could also hear a very low level rumbled from the large/bass? drivers. Switching the Avant to 3 speaker mode ended the problem of course. I then listened to the other speaker and heard the same low level buzz. I checked the power link connections and the one out of the Avant was loose. Tightening it however did nothing. Switching it to the other rear out on the Avant or to one of the front outs improved the problem to a large extent, but did not get rid of it.

Any thoughts on what the problem is? Since it is both speakers I was guessing it is a problem in the rear speaker out on the Avant.

My next step I suppose would be to disconnect the 1s and try our pair of 6000s and see if the noise is still there. If so that would seem to me to confirm the problem is with the Avant, particularly since switching between the two rear outs on the Avant does decrease the problem.
