It is certainly a problem due to age and the natural breakdown of the foam structure but what outside conditions influence this is yet to be agreed upon.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It will certainly impede on the sound quality and left unattended will result in wearing of the drive coils. The penta 1&amp;#39;s midrange are very prone and there are four on each.
