Foam rot has been discussed many times on Beoworld and there seems to be no satisfactory explaination as to what causes or hastens it. It is certainly a problem due to age and the natural breakdown of the foam structure but what outside conditions influence this is yet to be agreed upon.

It will certainly impede on the sound quality and left unattended will result in wearing of the drive coils. The bigger the speaker driver the more quickly this is likely to happen simply due to the weight of the cone.

Could you tell me how foam rot occurs? Is it through neglect or degredation over time? Is its effect cosmetic or does it impede performance?

They would connect but they have speaker link not powerlink do you would need an adaptor. it would be better to get penta 2 or 3's for ease of connection and lack of foam rot. The penta 1's midrange are very prone and there are four on each. Not to hard to do or replace though.

Penta 1's so no powerlink and more than likely foam rot as well. Still pentas though so great speakers.
