I also lost mine awhile ago, and think it was stolen. I ended up just getting a razor v3i and a 1gb card to listen to music when I'm out though.

Regarding the price of B&O, remember that used equipment is a great way to get into it. In fact many people feel that the true HiFi equipment from b&o was from the 70's to mid 90's, before they started to shift away from traditional component style stereo systems. The stuff is built really well, and a system from the 80's or 90's will still last you awhile. I personally don't by any b&o stuff new. You can find some nice stuff on ebay if you're patient. Check out the product pages here and on beocentral.com. You might want to start by looking at the beosystem 5000 or 5500 if you prefer the stacked components look, or the beosystem 3300, 3500, or 4500 if you like the long, sleek, touch panel look. Any of these can be found on ebay in the US for less than $1000, more if you're in Europe. You'll also find stuff for sale in the sale section of the forum, but you need to be a gold member to access it.

I do remember registering my Ipod with Apple, maybe via Itunes when I got it?

I think I was pick pocketed while in Harrods. It was the 60GB Video one.

I am very sorry to hear that. Where did you lose it? Unfortunately it is very unlikely that a thief would register it and Apple do not keep a record of serial numbers as far as I am aware. Where do you live?

True - if you didn't buy it from Apple direct not only will you not have it custom engraved but they will not have your serial number if they don't log it when you register with iTunes!

Not being a 'net wiz, I think they could identify an I.P. number if they wanted to (and it was of national importance) but most peoples connections are dynamic (i.e. i.p. number is different each time they log on) and so it would be difficult to track down one individual iPod (even if they wanted to). Imagine what would happen if every who lost theirs reported it ! They would never take on the task of identifying an individuals location - especially in the US where there may be all sorts of civil liberties implications.

I do still think they could disable stolen iPods (if they wanted to offer this as a feature/service) if they were given a serail number and proof of purchase.

When connected to iTunes the serail number will be displayed - not much help really unless the Plod actually recover it when you could then prove it was yours. Also, was it engraved with anything on the rear?? Again that could help prove its rightful owner should it be recovered.

Reporting a stolen iPod to Apple who could then have iTunes disable it if connected to the 'net would be a really neat idea (and reasonably workable) - unfortunately this feature is not implemented (unless someone knows better).

Hi to all,

It's quite sad that this is my first post. I'm friends with another user here and I've loved B&O ever since he introduced me to it while round his house. The design and quality is outstanding. One thing he didn't mention was the price! So I was a little disheartened when I went to a B&O dealer for the first time.

Anyway, regarding Beoworld I've mainly just been reading a few of the main topics every now and again, keeping an eye out for any talk of a Beosound 3 which I'd like to try out as my first B&O kit. However, as you all seem like keen audio techies, I was wondering whether anyone could help me. My Ipod has been stolen, and naturally I would really like it back. Is there anything I can do to find it, or contact Apple so maybe they can find it somehow. I have the serial code from the box still.
