I had exact same symptom on my BC8500. Look at the tape itself and you'll see that it isn't dead flat, it curls slightly. Good belt tension flattens the tape against the head, poor tension allows the tape to curl away from the head slightly - hence the drop in signal strength on one channel.

I got a new belt from Martin (Dillen) and fitted it myself. Problem disappeared.

Tip: when you prop the lid of the beocenter up to gain access to the tape drive, make sure its secure!

Cheers, Steve.

Re: Beocenter 9000 - Cassette Tape Issues

Hmm, I have never heard about that problem before. Martin (user name Dillen) is the expert on this topic, so you might drop him a PM.

Could it be the tape-head beeing out of line with the tape? try depressing the cassette while playing and listen for changes.

br

Chr.

Beocenter 9000 - Cassette Tape Issues

I've just noticed whilst playing a good old cassette that the Beocenter isn't producing output on the right side.

Swapped a number of cassettes and still no signal, so it's deffo the unit.

CD's, Turntable etc all work o.k. - i.e. getting good output from L + R.

Is this a common fault?

Hope someone can help....................
