Slightly off topic, but I have an IR eye which was meant to plug into the older VX video recorder to make it work with a non B&O TV.
It has the headphone type plug and works great on a Beolink PC2!
Just thought I would share this with y'all.

I checked. It's $36 plus change. As for $20 for the battery cover, I wouldn't handed it to you and bid you good day. But that's another story!

Are you sure its only $35 for an IR eye sounds cheap?
(Compared to $20 that I've paid for beo4 battery cover )

The "eyes" all look similar, though the one that has the headphone-like plug on the end is either for a BeoMedia or a BeoSystem 1 variant. The eye that is used with an active kit, passive kit, or wireless kit, uses a DIN plug that looks like powerlink and has a timer, volume, and standby button on the black vertical strip over the actual IR receiver.

If you don't have one, a dealer can provide one for about $35 US. This comes with a 49' cable and eye.

As far as I know the IR eye hockey puck is available with different connectors/cables - but I am not sure.

I do not beleive that the older IR receiver (MCL) will work but may be other forum members have more details here!

I'm a bit confused here:
IR eye, newer version (hockey pack) is using headphone like connector (as far as I know) and ML/MCL Converter has 5 pin input marked IR?

Another question will this ML/MCL converter work with the older IR receiver?
When used for linked rooms - linking to BeoSound 9000 or BeoSystem 1.

Yes, ML/MCL converter and BeoLink Passive are the same except the ML/MCL converter comes without the IR eye. Both are designed for usage with the ringlike IR eye as shown here: http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=981

Sure, no problem, in fact, it would be even better suited to this task considering that the rear channels carry a right & left, while the center is technically mono.

Powerlink carries 2 channels at once (it is usually the task of the BeoLab to decide which one to look at) so you could easily run a single lead of PowerLink to the ML/MCL converter and then two passive leads of 16/2 out to whatever speakers you'd like.

Thank for reply.
Reason why I ask about Eye connector type is to make sure I can use this unit as beolink with speakers and IR eye outdoors.

Just thought of another option can it be used for rear speakers?
It has only one powerlink input, can it split signal correctly to Left Rear & Rright Rear channels?

You coooould do this. Sure. You don't need an eye in this case, though, as it will not be receiving IR commands itself. You connect the ML/MCL Converter by PowerLink and it will click on along with the other speakers.

If anyone has tried this, though, I'd be interested to hear some tips as to "optimizing" a setup like this.
