The following FREESAT channels were available today below. They are basically all the Freeview channels plus a couple "standard definition" channels plus BBC & ITV HD channels.

As many of you know the BBC in the UK made all its UK channels available via the Astra satellite sometime ago followed by ITV.

Now Channel 4, Film 4 and Film 4+1 have been put on Astra 2D satellite making them available to most parts of western Europe.

It is the first time Channel 4 has been available "Free-to-Air" on satellite and suggests the channel will be part of the launch lineup of the subscription free service called "FREESAT" All the braodcaster's channels except Film 4 have previously been part of an exclusive deal with Sky.

FREESAT, a new "Free-to-Air" digital satellite proposition from the BBC and ITV is expected to launch next month.
