Thanks for you support.

Got it working last night, help it start playing and left it for an hour. now it works fine (I think as don't own any passive speakers) so properly "goosed" is going to look for dry spots and cap now it's apart.

Could also be the muting circuit goofing up, letting everything read by the laser through. I've seen many cases of cracked solders here. It's on the left side of the bottom PCB somewhere near the power supply voltage regulators. Replace the caps while in there, they can also cause strange faults.

Finally, it can be a broken ribbon cable. I haven't experienced this myself but an addendum to the service manual tells about noisy playback caused by badly arranged ribbon cables as they are sandwich between the bottom and top PCB's.

I am afraid that the drive motor is probably "goosed". The old lubricant has dried out and you need to dismantle the motor to re-lubricate it.

Requires some engineering skill on your own part or you can send it to Dillen!

I was given a BM5500 with a BG CD 50, the CD don't work. when I put a cd in it the Disk Drive Motor don't spin, but it makes some noise, sound like data noise to me!! any advice? I'm a bit green with this old stuff.
