You don't have to spend long on the official B&O site, following the threads with questions from customers, to understand that B&O support is sloooooow & often wroooooong when it comes to what can or can't be done with their equipment.
That was some smart lateral thinking you carried out there! I'll make a note of it - not in need of it now, but could come in handy.

Re: B&O support

Congratulations Claus,

I thought it should be possible. It´s great that people are trying setups (successfully) that Beo do not support and post their experiences here on Beoworld. Thanks for that.

Stefan

Re: B&O support

Claus,

Unfortunately, the response you received is not unusual, which is a considerable pity, given the general quality of B&O products.

Nevertheless, your tests prove that this is a valid configuration and maybe useful to other members in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback.

Re: B&O support

Perhaps they did'nt know wether this is possible and never tried ? so now If someone [else] asks B&O questions about MCL / ML combinations they certainly will suggest not to ask Christian but ask Claus..................

B&O support

THE ANSWER TO MY REQUEST

Dear Mr. H

We are pleased to see that you are the owner of several Bang & Olufsen products. The setup you described is not possible, as you cannot do this with datalink cables. You will need to use Masterlink cables.

Kind regards
Bang & Olufsen a/s

Christian Nielsen
BeoCare

MY REQUEST:

I upgraded my BV 3-32 to a BV 4-50 + BeoLab10. Now, I'm having a problem with my old Datalink cable.

My BV 3-32 was linked through a BeoLink Video Converter and Datalink cable and a coax cable to a MX 5500.
Now, I want to link the BV 4-50 with the BV3-32. I know that this usually is done by the Masterlink cable.
Unfortunally, I can't replace the old Datalink cable with a Masterlink cable so I have to stay with the Datalink + coax cable.

Now the question: Is there any possibility to link the BV 4-50 with the BV 3-32 through a datalink cable (7 pins) and a coax cable, like it worked perfectly before ???
Can I use for example a second BeoLink Converter to convert from Datalink again to Masterlink? Does the Beolink Video Converter work in both ways?
=> Masterlink in the mainroom -> Beolink Video-> Datalink -> linkroom Beolink Video converter-> Masterlink -> BV3. Coax connected as usual.

RESULT:

so I had to test this by my own: the described setup with the datlink cable works perfectly!

This was my first request to the B&O support during the last 20 years. Is this the usual quality of the responses?

BTW: Thanks to this wonderful forum: after downloading the installation manual for Beomedia1, the configuration was done by fly...

Claus
