I agree - a true bargain! The only problem with wall mounting these items is that the sticky tape holding the glass panels on has a tendency to disintegrate and the panels are no longer available if they break. You also need a long wall!

At the price it was a steal. The beogram alone, if good cartridge and relatively unmarked would fetch £499!!!!

I've had my 4500 system since they went on sale all those years ago. It's has been and still is, in daily use. I have mine in a horizontal line on a smoked glass shelf which is about 18" from the floor. Because the supports cannot be seen and all wires to and from it are hidden it looks like it is floating. Even after all these years it never fails to attract admiration from those seeing it for the first time and total shock when I tell them how old it is.

One of the best B&O investments I ever made. If/when it fails I will not hesitate to replace it with another if I can find one in as good condition.

I would say that this wasn't just a decent deal - it was an absolute bargain, especially if it was in mint condition as described. The fact that it was bought by a trader who will make a very healthy profit on it tells you how much of a steal it was. I would have said about £125 each for the Beomaster and CD if mint was a fair price. If you're going to hang it on a wall it's worth refixing the glass panels - they have a habit of falling off with age..... there are previous threads about this and how to do it.

Hi all - in my never ending quest for some quality vintage B&O gear my search has some down to a Beocentre 9500 or a Beosystem 4500 - the main problem I have is space, the 4500 can be wall mounted while the 9500 can't so i'm erring towards the 4500. How much would one fetch in VGC, don't require the turntable just the Beomaster and the CD unit (tape unit is a bonus do not essential)? As they are older they are not as prolific as the 9500 but just love the look of the 4500 when wall mounted in a line.
