Thanks again everyone for the input.

I think I have been convinced to buy a set of passive speakers... Now I just have to work within the bounds my wife set out (no wood grain veneers, nothing too big, etc...)

I agree with the comments about not using a subwoofer for music.

And of course, I did not miss those CX100s on ebay, but I am looking for something with more bass than the BL6000s.

You know, you can have the best of both worlds, I do.
Also, when looking at passives, there are some great speakers that are now considered vintage.
I have my BM7000 with Beovox S120s connected and Beovox S30s in the dining room. But I also run the 7000 into my Avant and out through Beolab Pentas and Beolab 8000s
When listening to Radio/CD/Tape/ Record player press AV first to listen with the labs or not, to listen with the Voxes. This way, I can chose to watch TV/Sat/DVD through Labs or Voxes too.
Suits me real fine.

I have a pair of BL8000s with the BL2, and the BL6500 sounds great with that setup.

I just hate to see such a fine amplifier sitting idle while the speakers do all the work

I have passive speakers connected to my white BM 6500 : These are white ALR Nummer 3 speakers which I bought when I was living in germany*. ALR is now called ALR Jordan. They sound much much greater than with my previous big Yamaha amplifier. The sound is much less aggressive than it was. There is largely enough bass (enough for my neighbors to complain from time to time ), and absolutely no need for an extra subwoofer. These are bass reflex speakers with a symmetric construction : two bass/middle speakers surrounding the tweeter. One above, one bellow.

Anyway, this exact model of loud speakers, is now no more for sale (I bought them 1994), but they prove to me that good passive loudspeaker can sound great with the BM 6500. I am really happy with this setup.
I had never a chance to hear the BM 6500 connected to other speakers, but I could hear my speakers connected to different amplifiers beside the Yamaha, and the best result was and remains for me with the BM 6500 !
Years ago, people told that B&O passive loudspeakers were not the best that one could get. Anyway, what ever brand of speakers you consider to use, have a try ! It can sound great.

(*) Back in those days, I choosed the white color for my loudspeaker to match the color of my white Beogram 6500, which was the only peace of B&O I had... Years later, I could get the missing parts in white: the BM and Beogram CD - Not the tape desk : I could not give up my Nakamichi tape desk.

In my personal opinion the Beolab 2 is not that well suited for use in a music system. A bit too much boom for my taste. But I can understand you feel the Beolab 6000's are a bit lacking in bass. Instead of adding a Beolab 2, I would trade in the Beolab 6000's for a pair of Beolab 3's. I think these sound absolutely wonderful. Best to listen for yourself, though...

Edit: Just realized you're in my time zone, so you can buy my white cx100's! They sound awesome when driven by a good amp, but thay alone won't satisfy your need for bass if thats what you're looking for. Yes, self advertising at its finest.

Or Sell the bl6000's and with the money get a nice set of pentas

Or if you really want to try the internal amp, maybe some beovox 5000 wall speakers, a Graham (joeyboygolf) favorite!

The RL140's are a fine speaker and the 6500 amplifier will have just about enough grunt to handle them. Your problem may be finding a pair in good condition. The cloth fronts are not very user friendly (fragile!) and they suffer from foam rot.

Unless you are a boom, boom merchant then you should resist the Beolab 2 for music listening.

Would recommend that you keep using the BL6000's and save up for a Beolab 2.

Speaker recommendations for a BM6500

I am currently using a pair of BL6000s on my BM6500. I was wondering if it is worth it to use the BM's built in amplifier on a pair of passive speakers (instead of the active BL6000s)? The BL6000s are a bit lacking on the lower end.

Any thoughts on using a pair of RL140s and how they might compare to the BL6000s?

Or active versus passive speakers on the BeoMaster?

I listen any and all music, as long as it's good
