I also think that if you plug a computer or a game console, you'll can make use of the 1080 lines immediately.
That said, I am fine with the "HD Ready" only resolution of my current BV7-32, but i'll upgrade to get the Beosystem 3 platform. All digital, yeah!

Well of course we all welcome the new platform for BV7 becuase in just a few years, the old one is offering poor performance against far far cheaper competition.

Whilst one expects the 'item one buys to last for many years and the HD panel will make the difference' Fact is the bi annual advances in panel development for LCD which is still a rather poor technology will far outweigh the fact one has an 1080 screen now. Still if it comes with it - fairenough

If you're seated with a magnifying glass, your nose a foot from the screen, then you need Full-HD ... Seriously, Full-HD is for projectors -- that's when it really matters. Pioneer doesn't even supply its 42" plasma screens with Full-HD, they claim you need at least 50" of screen to justify it, and even then it's not a format that they put their marketing weight behind.

And then there's the issue of getting material in the format, and of what SD and DVD looks like when upscaled to fit the screen's resolution. Lots of things that are in the pipeline, but sufficiently down the road for me to think it's going to be a consideration with my next purchase, not the one I just made.

Most upscaling algorithms seem to work best with 720p/1080i. And most transmissions are/will be in those formats. I've read several "studies" outlining the advantages of having processors work to those formats, instead of Full-HD. (That may, of course, also be a question of processing power not being sufficiently high, but why let that be an issue?)

That said, if it gives someone peace of mind to have the Full-HD resolution, then that's a perfectly valid decision.

You're all right, but the main reason I wanted to upgrade....wasn't for the 1080p panel, it's purely the addition of more than one HDMI socket and the power the BS3 will bring to the BV7-40.

very true, however, viewing distance and not screen size is more important to see the difference.....my 50" is 3,50 m away, and I struggeld quite long if I should go for the full HD or not. Glad I saved the money!

Agreed! IMO, you don't even need HD on a 32" screen. The latest upscaling such as that found in the BeoSystem 3 means there is no need for HD until you get to around 40" IMO. 50"+ and you may want 1080p, but it's still not needed all that much IMO!

full hd is overrated , 720p still looks amazing all the way up to 40 inches

you need 46+ before you can see the difference in 1080 imo

maybe bno have a point after all

I noticed that several shops started to display(taking pre-orders)

but all the catalogue spec, including official ones are all US MODEL

it says DVD region 1, Digital Tuner etc... ALL NOT INCLUDED for Japan.

Plus price is about 30% above European price, unlike most other items which are world-price(very similar price anywhere in the world)

#I asked them if I can have that, or something different....

Only analogue tuner(good for only few years, no promise of upgrading)

No recorder(HDR2/DVD2)

No 32"

Now I'm not sure if I shall just purchase or wait for something else.

The BV4 is sold as a promotional package containing BL7.2, BS3 and BV4 50" with a 4000$ discount in the US. This indicates that the full HD panel is right around the corner and that they want to get rid of the existing iventory.

Updates should be around the corner, I do think though that this might be a very good deal.

I think this is not a very good moment to buy a BV7, neither the 32", nor the 40". Both need to get some upgrades, especially concerning connections. As said before, the 40" pannel will be FULL HD in some months time, therefore you should wait, or get a BV9...

Updated 40" model with full HD panel and improved chassis (based on BS3) should come out soon for the US and Japan per financial report, and later for Europe as well it seems. For the 32' this is not yet annouced when there will be an upgrade.

The 40" I probably wouldn't buy at this point unless I get a very good deal, the 32" I am not sure with.
