Price as per the new list ( £1425 ) . Perhaps I should try and get a 2nd free Beo5 ( that would make 3 ), had to twist some arms to get the first one as my dealer isn't doing that promotion , I pointed out the Cambridge dealership is actually a bit closer for me .

Well I think it is a little naughty to sell you speakers as new when they must be at least a year old. Were they a good price? I think a bottle of B&O labelled champagne would be called for as some form of recompense!!

These new Red's are type 6637 , same as the black's they replaced . I've got to mention this to them but the consensus seams to be that this version is better than the ice one's , bit of a dilemma .

I have heard the BL4000 "old" model wiht the class AB amp., and the ones with ICE power amp. IMO there are a slight difference i sound quality. The new ones sound a little too "digital" or "mechanical" for my taste. There are a more warm feel to the old ones. And i aggree to " if there was a big change in quality why not make a statement". From B&O that is.

What type number are these? If the old ones, they will be 6637 and officially were last sold in February 2007. They will have a phono plug in addition to the Powerlink sockets.

New ones, with the ICE modules, are type 6643.

Personally, I am actually a bit sceptical of the new 4000s. I think they may well use the BL4 amplifiers and this is done for economy rather than sound quality. If there was a big difference, why no big announcement? The Mk2s also need to use the mk3 Powerlink cables to prevent hum...

However I have not heard them back to back. Still waiting for an opinion on this.

Thanks' Peter , Don't know if it's worth make a fuss over but just go a pair of Red 4000's ( usually go for black but thought I would have a change ) and noticed the on/off button worked . Red isn't that popular so were probably made a while back , the serial number starts 1916--- , according to a previous post were made 2006/7 so can I presume they aren't the latest ice one's . Don't suppose I would notice any difference in sound quality but when an improvement ( debatable ) is implemented and you buy it I would expect to get the up to date version , that's also good from a resale point of view . They have to shift the previous model stock but do they hope you won't notice the difference .

and no Line IN Connection, you need a powerlink to line in cableset!

That seems to be correct. They now just have a power indicator - it is no longer a button.

Did I read somewhere in the past that B&o stop putting an on/off button on the Bl4000 and when they changed to ice amps ?
