Has anyone viewed the Epson EMP TW2000 , impressive spec. Resolution VWXGA , Brightness 1600 , Contrast 50000-1 ( yes 50000-1 ) and at £2542 + vat , got to see one myself . Is there a trade off somewhere because of these high specs?

I'm guessing that it's an issue of price. at my shop we've found the Samsung to be a good choice for around $6k US. We also use Seleco & Runco projectors for higher end jobs. In my experience, projectors are usually sold as "add-ons" rather than the center of the video experience, so it's not uncommon to seek out a good performer at a good price.

There's a pretty wide variety of projectors that can be controlled by the BeoSystem 3, though.

Why this Samsung Projector , is it that good or the only one that works with Bs3 ?

Projectorpoint.co.uk sell this projector for £2287 + vat , they assure me that it's the Sp-A800B although the B is missing in the add but if you click on the spec. pdf file it shows it's the 800B model .

Hi there.. I am a Bang & Olufsen dealer so therefore this would be my costing for what you have listed.

Stewart Screen 92" visionary - £4200 (depends if this is a flush conceleaed unit)

Samsung SP A800 Projector -£3500 (new style if lens is in centre of projector

Beosystem 3 DBVT - £5100

Future Automation PD2 lift - £1800

Addiditional 7.2 centrer speeker - £2200 (woudl highly recommend the 7.4 or Lab 10 as centre channel however)

Beo 5 - £495

DVD 2 DVD player - £900

Cables & connections - £1000 - £1500 inc HDMI, Bsys 3 cables, Relays and GRX AV

Planning, Installing, commissioning. include 1x full time project manager.. £2500-£3000

So this must be a large job for the quote but anything between £22K - £28K is about right. Contact me if you'd like any help.

Maybe it's not my place saying this in the beoworld forum, but if I was looking to put together a high end home theater system, I probably wouldn't use any B&O products. When it comes to stereos I'll sacrifice some sound quality for the cool B&O looks, but in a home theater system I don't really think the trade-off is worth it, especially considering the B&O premium you're paying. Furthermore, I'm willing to bet they are bilking you on cables too. Remember that assuming physics applies to your home as much as it does to anyone else's, then this:

At the moment I have a less expensive system:

A Avant 32 RF DVD, Lab Penta MK3+ 6000, Screen with remote, Epson TW700, Denon 2930 DVD (with HDMI to the Epson).

And I've bought an "ordinairy"Logitech Harmony 525 which has macro functions and can control the whole set including the Avant.

So, choose "Watch DVD"on the Harmony and it will start the Epson, Denon, Avant and lower the screen.

Let the movie begin......

I've had a similar quote , SPH800 projector , BS3 incl. Dvbt module , Stewart Ve82H , Pd2 projector drop , Bl7.4 & Sony Blu-ray BdpS1E + £1500 for cabinet and cables . Total quote £21,000. I have 6 Penta Mk3's for the sound and thought I was stuck with this system because of wishing to use these speakers , but the Penta's have other inputs as well as powerlink so does this open up the choice I have ? Not bothered about Lights and curtains at the moment , just want the best picture , films/Dvd only .

In such a project which includes hardware, planing, project management and the "proof" that all the components "really" work together just changing hardware components must be seen in a different light. Most of the stuff just works by max 90% when you hit the cinema button on your Beo5. So with the installers expirience he usually selects products which work by 100%....just to avoid that you call him every second day.....

You may want to check the www.avsforum.com, there are lot debattes why a installer did select A instead of B (one example is a video server to store DVD on hardrive, they all go for the very very expensive Kaleidescape System as all the DIY media PC solutions are not working 100%)

With the B&O Beoliving concept they proofed it with the components they suggest. Unfortunately some of them are a little bit outdated....

What type of movie do you watch more? is that more 4:3/16:9 or more movies in cinemascope? If latest, than a multimasking screen or a 21:9 screen could make sense. I have a multimasking screen which great to adjust the black bars to the size of the movie, no white left overs!

Is your Lutron Grafik Eye the B&O one? because the beoliving concept works with IR, not with RS232 or IP (like Crestron, AMX or the new Philips .

At the end of the day the whole integration is based on the two triggers of the Beosystem 3 (screen controll, light scenes, curtains), the IR control of the projector from the BS3 with a cable and the IR light control of the Beo4/5 to a Lutron Grafik Eye or Busch&Jäger EIB panel. Not more!

Looking at it, I would ask around too. While the B&O equipment is expenses, it seems like a lot for the labour. I would go for either a better projector or a cheaper screen. Seems a bit like connecting a Bose system to BL5.

You can still buy the B&O equipment and have the pro installation done by someone else. I would ask to break that out.

The projector can be had for £2300.oo online. Your freindly B&O dealer is charging you over double that. Just walk into their showroom with your trousers down to your ankles and bend over :-)

Like I said earlier..........complete rip off.

As usuall, some fantastic responces. a total MIXED BAG as it were...

I especially like the comment on "accustics"

As for lighting, yes i have my own Lutron Graffik Eye controller already installed with precision placed psots already in place.

As for pricing.. yes ive found out that BnO are charging the projector at £4995.00 & yet found it online @£2995.00 just know...

I guess i really like the idea of "one button go" on the remote...

As for the extension.. LMAO!

I go now to research even further.. infact just been looking at a rather nifty Sound Proofin' company online for such projects.. & yes ODD that BnO didnt mention this... Im sure my semi det neighbours would have something to say about it...

You say " Addiditional 7.2 centrer speeker". My opinion that the price is way over the top was on the grounds that you already have your main speakers.

You can buy alot of nice kit for that money.

If it's all included, it's sounds OK. BUT DVD 2 is a no go. BS3 can control other brands Bluray players, so go for HDR2 instead it works in harmony with BS3.

At least from my point of view it is very hard to comment because the "hardware" is just one part of the solution. So what is included and have they done simular projects before? Any references you can check out?

My expirience with the Beoliving concept is that most of the dealers are unable to deliver a "full" cinema expirience as the only sell the B&O stuff. But in the real world there is more....just as an example the screen: Stewart is without any doubt one of the best products available, but they offer different screen materials which need to be selected with care to achieve the best result. (e.g. Firehawk vs. Greyhaw vs Studiotec, Multimasking system etc)

One aspect which I never saw in a Beoliving concept is room acustics. The room treatment is one of the most important aspects of a succesful cinema expirience. (even the Bang&Olufsen Demo room in Struer (downstairs just behind the B1 shop) has a very bad acustic...).

What is their take on the projector? The Samsung is a very outdated model (released 2005), not very silent and has some really nasty DLP drawbacks (from my expirience).

Furthermore, how is the light controll done? With Lutron, EIB? How many lights? Curtains?

Finally a ISF type of calibration would be something I would expect

So you may want to ask some more questions to the project manager to see what they can do for you.

Sounds about right if you then include some of the higher end BeoLabs. Looks as though there are products missing off that list though. A BeoLab based surround sound system can cost between around £7k and £35k.
