Certainly isn't, it's a very good CD player. The converters, while unique in archtecture, also had a unique sound and they were quite sort after.

Having recently heard a CD5500, I'd say it was my favourite B&O CD player. Burr Brown DACs rarely made it into domestic equipment, even if there is only one in the CD50!

I'm located outside of St. Louis, MO in the US. As far as I know there aren't any B&O repair centers here but I'll see if I can find anyone else to take a look at it.

I think I'll try letting it warm up a bit tonight and see what that does.

My CD 50 has been giving me some problems. It was working fine until a month or so ago when it began to shut down randomly while I was playing CDs. Now it doesn't seem to be able to go more than 45 seconds without powering off, and most of the time it's completely unresponsive (eg, tray won't eject, pressing play does nothing, won't power up.) In fact, the only thing it really does anymore is eject the tray at random times throughout the day.
It's an old machine so I guess it might have given up the ghost, but the fact that I can occasionally get a solid 45 seconds of music out of it makes me think that maybe there's hope. Anyone have any ideas?

These CD players are very rarely unfixable. It sounds like it needs a service at the very least and maybe a motor strip & lube. Well worth getting done as these are fabulous CD players.

Where are you located?

A quick tip, try putting it in a warm place for a few hours such as an airing cupboard then try again. If it plays OK for a while then this would indicate that the grease on several components has hardened causing some of your problems.

Puncher is spot on.

The main thing is the Beomaster, the CD player takes its commands from there which in turn gets the commands from the MCP or whatever compatible remote you are using. The datalink codes are the same between the Bemaster 6500 & the CD50 so there will be no problem at all.

PS. Don't forget to put the CD in label side down

Yes on both counts - the 5500 system (pretty much identical to the 6500) was initially supplied with the CD50 until the CD5500 was introduced. (I assume you do know the aluminium finish is different (brushed on the CD50)

I am thinking about picking up a Beogram CD 50 for almost no money from a locat friend. My question is will my MCP 6500 work with it and can I connect it to my Beomaster 6500 tuner/amp?
