i used a std 5 pin din to 5 pin din plug lead i get sound out of the beocentre when using the tape 2 socket and the tape 2 selector/also on aux but have not tried to get the tv to produce sound from the beocentre i just wanted a better sound when watching dvd's etc

I am amazed and pleased. Done the pentas 2 weeks ago and even my cousin who is very picky did confirm a super set of speakers - sound is superb. As the speakers were rotten - purchased them on ebay for 350€ with cloth diteorations on the grill, foam roat and scratches on the stainless - most of the stuff is done now -> Refoamed, polished and new cloth.

Now I have 2 more questions.

The beovox pentas have a surround of plastic profile in copper colour. There is one edge brocken off on one speaker. How can I fix this? Is the profile available - looks like glued with double sided tape.

Second - I have a beocenter 9000, MX5500 TV and the mentioned Pentas. Is a normal DIN cable sufficiant to connect the TV with the Beocenter? Or do I need a special B&O Datalink cable, as Powerlink is not installed?

shim but the process worked finr - i'm happy with the results ie to my jaded hearing!

Hello,

as I am just planning for the weekend to do the midrange from my pentas, I wonder if I need to shim the cone or if the method of presseing down is efficient enough. No one clearly mentioned this yet.

Keith as Tony said the tacky glue or whatever Myrko (goodhifi) gives you should only take about an hour to dry. I'd still wait at least half a day before doing the outer portion though, just to be safe. Take a look at Andy's thread. Also, if you google something like "speaker refoaming" you'll find some good photo tutorials online. I think that's how I first learned.

Keith, I'm no expert but managed to refoam some S120s myself, and wrote a photo-thread about it. If you haven't read it yet, it might give you some tips. Heed anything Martin says, he's quite a guru.

correct but i found the glue supplied by G H was dry within an hour - probably not fully dry but certainly robust enough to fold over the ouiter rim to enable the application of glue to the solid rim seat area - a glass was then used to hold in place with a little extra weight on the glass base to ensure a solid/firm joint - it worked for me - now got a big cheesy grin when i play my joe cocker discs through em

Hi Tony and Cam..

So...in your method Tony...I would glue the foam ring to the cone...and then put an aerosol can..that fits to hold equal pressure over the inner glued surface...

Once dry (1-2 days)...glue the outer portion of the foam ring to the speaker frame...and use a larger kitchen glass to hold that pressure...

I concur with camshaft - start with cone - i tried the finger method first but could not get it to work satisfactorarily so looked at other methods and arrived at an aerosol can about 9" tall and approx half full by indicated weight - worked well - as previously needs to be about 1-2mm greater than cone edge to ensure inner seals to cone - did not use shims have seen (elsewhere) reference to the fact that below about 85mm diam should be ok without - maybe wilmslow audio (uk) - good luck

Hey Keith, as I mentioned you'll be fine using just tacky glue from a craft store too. As far as putting weight on the rings, I don't. Instead after I glue them, I wait about a minute, then lightly go around pressing down with my finger tips, then wait another minute and start pressing down again, over a total of about 5 min. I wouldn't be surprised if you were told that isn't the proper method, but I haven't had any issues before.

Also, make sure you glue the ring to the cone first, not the frame to the ring first. And wait at least half a day before then gluing the outer edge of the ring. As for shims, I can't tell you for Pentas, as it depends on the particular woofer. Some have tighter tolerances than others. On some woofers the tolerance is low enough that you can just press lightly on the cone to make sure it's centered and not rubbing. On others it's a good idea to use shims. Also, rather than buying shims you can use the thin plastic collar stays.

no details on bottle however pm your address etc and i'll send on the extra i have - g/h supplied two bottles only used about 3/4 of a bottle - its white however!

i just used glue and glasses and/or the base of aerosol cans of appropriate size the inner was a little troublesome as weight diam needs to be just a little larger than the inner ring edge to ensure it seals down properly
