Speaker cable versus phono/ din lead

I am kooking to set up rear speakers in a new room for surround sound.  The two rear speakers (CX 100) take the output of my DVD player via a Beomaster 5000 amplifier (phono to DIN leads).

In terms of placement what is the consensus

1 Would you keep the phono to DIN lead short and run long speaker cables (to the loft and down again)

     or

2 A long Phono to Din lead (again to the loft and down again) and keep the speaker cables short?

I would definitely situate the BM5000 near the speakers and run the line level signal upstairs.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.
