    One more product forum

I would like one more forum under products forum. Because when you have a technical problem/question about a product from for example 1988, It will not fit on  these listed below . Therefore you have to put it in the general forum, and your problem drowns in other fast changing
    post.

    Today we have:

    Beogram
Have a specific BeoGram Record Deck related question?

    Vintage forum
A Forum for Technical Help and Support on Bang & Olufsen products over 25 years old.

    The workbench
Advanced Technical Forum for discussion of Bang & Olufsen products at component level.

    The Beo5 remote forum

My suggestion would might be A Forum for Technical Help and Support on Bang & Olufsen products under 25 years old

    Re: One more product forum

    Hi Sveifors

It's a really tricky one this, and one that we have thought a lot about behind the scenes..

We always like to keep the General Forum fast-flowing, as it is always more about current issues and problems.  I think if we added too many forums, we may endanger the General Forum and relegate it to a place where only the 'oddball' threads end up.

I do really see your point though, and maybe we need to rethink the BeoGram & Vintage and perhaps combine them possibly?

Let's see what everyone thinks, but it's not an easy call - and one we have agonised over!

    Re: One more product forum

Maybe the way foward is .........

    Vintage

    5000 series (5500, 6500, 7000)

    Overture series

    in line series (2000, 3500. 4500 series

Music centre (if you will) series (8000, 9300, 9500 etc)

.......... or similar related models. Not wanting to fragment too much but obviously the 5000 crowd and the 8000 crowd and the Overture crowd share similar interests - base catagories on chassis or design types.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

A real clutter if you ask me Puncher..

It's SO difficult this one, honestly.  You can go one way, and create a shed load of specialist forums - or the other and keep them to a minimum but not please everyone all of the time.

I could think of just over 40 different forums i'd like, as diverse as an 'Installers Forum' right though to a 'Restoration Forum' - but where do you stop?  Having a fast-flowing forum or forums keeps it interesting, as nothing looks worse than a thread that hasn't had a post in 2 weeks.

    Re: One more product forum

I know you're right! - I know we had a 5000 forum on the old site and it wasn't that frequently visited. It was def a good move to have a Beo5 forum so that those that don't have/need/want one needn't have the general forum cluttered up with newfangled (nearly an anagram) posters and maybe that is a different answer - filter forums by subject traffic weight.

I'm not sure that helps eitherLaughing

    Re: One more product forum

Although I'm not a Beo5-er myself, I can see that, at least for the next year, it may make sense to have a seperate forum, on the basis that it's a new product and it will take time to create a good FAQ section for it. As for the others, I suspect the way it is is probably as good as we're going to get

A vaguely related note though, as this has been brought up. The curent forum for this is:

Why are their two general forums when the general forum is the only board in the general group? Effectively the problem is that you can't use the drop down forum menu to jump from here, say, the lifestyle forum. Of course, this could be a browser thing, but I think it very unlikely or it would have been brought up before I would have thought. But then why hasn't this issue, or has it?

    Re: One more product forum

To create a forum, it needs what is called a 'Parent' forum if i remember correctly.  This then allows you to create forums under the same 'Heading' or parent forum. The Parent Forum had to be the General Forum, and the General Forum is a forum within that.  So, effectively - if we wanted a General Forum 2 or such like, right under the General Forum - it would be right under it and within the same box if we asked for the General Forum to be the parent...

So, in effect.. General Forum is the 'Heading', General forum is the 'Sub-Heading' - which is why it displays twice.

Although I apprciate the suggestions to open new forums, I, too, think it dilutes the information and make each forum look too quiet.

I, myself, only use the "ActiveTopics Page" ( http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/TopicsActive.aspx ), so it is like have only one forum.

I can see in one go everything that happens on every forum and almost never miss a thread.

I only ment a new forum under PRODUCT RELATED FORUM.

Technical Help and Support on Bang & Olufsen products lets say between 10 to 25 years old. Because questions about these get very little response in the general day to day forum. It only take 10 hours and they are back in page 2.

My 2p worth would be to merge beogram and vintage forums as there isn't really enough traffic for them to need to be in seperate forums and many of the posts in Vintage are about Beograms anyway.

As far as 25 years old  goes, i see it as a  guideline not a rule. I wouldn't see it as a problem if (for example) someone posted about a 19-year old product. As a (very) rough guide I would say anything from the days before B&O stopped making vinyl beograms is vintage and anything afterwards is modern, but it's not woth getting too prescriptive.

Instead of an age limit, there could be a generation limit: Pre MCL, MCL, ML...
