    Full HD Beovision 4-50

    Dear all,

my dealer told me yesterday, that from now on the 4-50 will be Full-HD if ordered now. Does any one know with which panel?

The existing panasonic g10 panel with 5.000:1 contrast ratio or the new one with 10.000:1

     Thanks for your input.

The present G9 panel is high def but not FULL HD that is the G10 and my understanding is that the G10 actually has a lower contrast ratiop than the G9.

The real panel to look out for is the G11 which will offer one of the highest contast ratios yet.

be interesting to see how the 1080 panel copes with standard definition as normaly they are not so good!

    Re: Full HD Beovision 4-50

The Panasonic commercial panel used by B&O is a G9 in Full-HD, there is no G10 full HD from Panasonic released by today.

However, I doubt that anybody will see the difference in contrast in a day to day viewing expirience.....

erm!!  not sure this is correct the panasonic G9 panel is high definition but NOT FULL hd- ie its a 720 screen NOT a 1080.

The D10 panasonic screen is 1080 but has a lower contrast ratio than the D9. This will be resolved with the D11 panel due out mid next year. Its the D10 screen that will be fitted to all B&O products if you order from now onwards.

My understanding is that orders previously made will be sent with the D9 screen.

If you have ordered a product believing it to be a D10 FULL HD screen you should get onto B&O as it looks like they are up to their old tricks again!_ ive been caught before!!

Anyway, probably your better off with a D9 panel, more contrast, better SD viewing  1080 only good for blueray

The new full HD Panasonic panels and tv 's with the contrast ration 10000:1 are shown now at the IFA in Berlin.

Also available now, so If you say next spring, maybe B&O waits for next spring to use them ?

My understanding is that the 1080 panel now being used is of a lower contrast ratio than the normal HD D9 panel.

The new panels being shown at IFA would be available for B&O in the spring if one takes into account the previous slow adopton of B&O

    Re: Full HD Beovision 4-50

335f, the current Panasonic line up for the comercial panels has g10 panels for HD-Ready and the g9 panels for Full-HD.

    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/plasma-displays/index.htm

The consumer line up has all g10, regardless Full-HD or HD-ready, in Japan, new consumer models were anounced just a couple of days ago (model name xxx750) including 24p for the full HD range. Not sure if Panasonic will show these new models at the IFA fair, however, I can tell you on Saturday....

    Dear all,

thanks for your input. - I agree, would be amazing if they use the latest panel. I wonder if I take one from the shop NOT Full hd but with an discount as im am not sure wether this will be a big benefit on a 50" screen....

Let us know how IFA was.

Of all the studies that have been completed on hd v full hd  by the BBC and independant testing faclities the answer is that full HD only offers advantage firstly, when using blue ray or a 1080 source and secondly when the screen size is over 65"

The disadvantage is that the panasonic panel used presently by B&O for the 1080 screen has less contrast ratio than the hidef D9 panel.

Also if you watch more SD tv than hidef sources the picture is not as good with FULL hd.

Whilst one can use the argument about future proofing the fact is that advances in panel design will be  much more relevant over the comming years than the increase in use of 1080!

    Dear All,

I would like to ask you a few questions:

    1) I have just ordered a few days ago a BeoVision 9 which is supposed to be Full HD (1080p). How can I verify that is correct when I receive the TV? I'm getting a bit confused with all these different panels and specs...

    2) Furthermore, I requested this to come with the BeoMedia installed, but I'm a bit concerened about possible BURN-IN if I use that BeoMedia a lot for images or MP3... should that be a legitimate concern?

    3) I will have paired up with a Playstation 3 too... can gaming be in issue with regards to BURN-IN?

    4) Do B&O tvs need to be calibrated? or is something I have to deal with myself?

Your advise would be very much appreciated... cheers!

2.burnin problem seems to NOT be a problem anymore
    3. see question 2
    4. dont think so, only if you connect a projector then maybe you will calib. that

    good luck

    1) HD-Ready versions have type no 9710-9719, Full-HD versions have 9720-9730.

    2) Yes, but they have updated the SW in the BeoMedia 1 to solve this (same is true for "older" versions of BeoSystem 3 and HDR-2)

    3) Do not leave a still picture on for longer time periodes.

    4) Yes, they do - but the BeoVision 9 is calibrated by a clever Danish person at Struer. All by hand, of course, wearing white gloves.

    Hi Roger!

    thanks for your help...

Since you really seem to be an expert can you tell me a little bit more about BEOMEDIA and BURN IN? I am still in time to ask my dealer to get me the BV 9 without the BeoMedia if that is better... what would you recommend?

I like the idea of seeing my pictures on the BV9 and playing there my MP3 files, but of course don't want to get the screen ruined becasue of that...

Thanks again for your preciousa advises!!! ciao!

    Re: Full HD Beovision 4-50

Thanks, but I am not an expert!

B&O have issued an SW update for the BeoMedia to avoid burn-in on their plasma (PDP) series (current and past): Set the display time-out to three minutes and the darken level to 200 in the BeoMedia settings as described below:

    <LIST> /PC/ <GO> <R> <9>
    SETTINGS:
    - DISPLAY TIME OUT:  3 MIN
    - DARKEN LEVEL:  200
If you follow this recommendation, then B&O's tech dept have found that your expensive plasma display is safe when used with their BeoMedia 1. Not that the above settings are done in the BeoMedia setup menu (not the tv's) as indicated <GO> <R> <9>

    Re: Full HD Beovision 4-50

You can also use P.MUTE on the beo4 to switch off the plasma if you like. (you may need to add P.MUTE to your list menu on Beo4)
