Beolab 4000 and Static When Powered ON

Just few days ago suddenly one of my beolab 4000 is producing static. When powered on the static is very noticeable and even when playing music one can hear the irritating noise. What could be wrong.

Initially i thought the beocom 6000 nearby may be interfering but moving that did not help.

    Any Ideas??

    Thanks

Hi, Swap the speakers over and retry just to make sure its not the cables!  Is the one with the static plugged into an electric socket with anything else??

      Cheers Nick

Swapped cables and used a new power cable to a new outlet - everything point towards something internal with speaker. All external factors have been eleiminated.

However, I did notice a loud "thud" everytime i change the swith to change between Left/Right/Inline sources...could be something related to that...frustrating..

    Thanks

Re: Beolab 4000 and Static When Powered ON

I have the very same problem occurring this week on both BeoLab 4000's. I have to try swapping the cables, but I am afraid it's the speaker...

If you have the later versions (Mk.II) of the Beolabs, you should also be using Mk.3 Powerlink cables. They have additional shielding needed by ICEpower equipped Beolabs.

Thank You for the advice, the speakers are MKII. The cables are however the new double shielded type. Now that I tested them again the humming is present only in the other BL4000 not both as before.

Re: Beolab 4000 and Static When Powered ON

Any more ideas before I open the speakers myself. I am hoping a loose connection or some thing simple i may find, which hopefully I can fix with no much trouble...any ideas from folks who have opened a beolab 4000 - the orginal not with ICE.

I tried all versions of cables. One speaker works with no issues - thus confirming its not cables or source...something internal in this specific speaker which cause some static randomly and humming sound when powered on but with no music being played.,,humming sound seems to be constant..

Re: Beolab 4000 and Static When Powered ON - SOLVED

I dont know why it worked but shutting down the speakers for a day or two completely cold...switched on few minutes ago and John Mayer's "Heart Break Warfare" sound clean and heart wrenching....me happy!!

    Cool

Can't  say for sure what my problem exactly was, but since I upgraded to BeoSystem 3, the static disappeared.
