    BL2 superfluous for home cinema?

    Hi everybody,

My dealer is offering me a good price for my BL 8000s and my BL2, if I purchase a pair of new BL9s from him.

I have no trouble believing that the BL9s will sound better than my BL8000s + BL2 when listening to music, and I obviously like the idea of freeing up space and having less cables in my living room.

However, what about home cinema? I love my 5.1 setup (I have a pair of BL6000s in the back), I do watch a lot of movies, so I am wondering if the BL9s would in that case adequately replace both the BL8000s and the BL2? In other words, isn't a subwoofer needed these days when watching a movie? Would my TV (BV7 55") compensate for the lack of a subwoofer eg. by beefing up the bass on the BL9s? I would end up with a 5.0 setup after all.

Many thanks for your inputs and by the way: merry Christmas to all of you :-)

I also have 9s with a 7-55 with 4000s in the rear. A sub is a matter of personal taste. I have used my system both with and without. I find I like it better without a sub as the bass is much tighter and more uniform coming from the pair of 9s instead of just 1 sub.

Hmmmmm Vantage do you really want to lose the elegance of the BL8000?   The BL8000 is the equivalent of a tiny black Chanel dress on the most outstanding lady in the room or a black slim fit Dolce&Gabbana suit on us boys!

Id stick with the BL8000 knowing that I had a timeless beauty!

Hi, I had the same setup. BL 8000 front , REL sub ( even bitter bigger then BL 2) and 6000 in the back.

Traded the 8000, and left the sub in the setup. Sold the sub in 2 weeks, not nescesary imho.

Ask your dealer of he can put in lab 9 and leave your sub in the setup for a few days, then decide.

    Happy hollidays

Many thanks all, for your inputs. Especially you hotknife: as you said, I am in exactly the same situation as you were, so your experience is therefore pretty useful!

    Cheers - VANTAGE
